It's a sad life when THIS is the excitement of my day.

After doing all the research on what I could get for less than $200, I ended up going with a Boss DR-3. Should get here in a week, will have a million new songs finished by next Friday. I have very high hopes about this thing. I checked it out in the music store and it sounds good and flexible for the live-funk feel (which is so hard to find in a drum machine - it's either I-Robot or Heavy Metal. No jazzy feel).

Hopefully I'll get what I want out of life. Otherwise, I'm asking for a frickin refund.

i got the dr5 and dr770....dr5 is good cos it got 4 tracks u can program bass/srtrings/piano etc too...however the 770 has the best sounds and kits for pure drums

i wish i knew how 2 use thme and have one myself . No one i know has one. I need 2 hook up with local people and they can show me the ropes

I've had the DR-770 for a while now and I haven't gotten bored with it yet. The patches are nice and I like to edit them to my tastes. Sometimes I use it along with my Planet Phatt or my old Alesis HR-16. It's a lot of drum machine for a reasonable price.

I went to the music sto and tried out about 5 different ones. I can't believe Alesis hasn't updated the SR-16 in, what, 10 years? 15? But anyhoo - the DR-3 has great sounds and looks to be extremely flexible in programming. I looked at a DR-5 about 4 years ago and was just totally let down by their old-fashioned pattern programming format.

And yeah, I still have an HR-16 too. The display is dead, tho. So, it's now just a wall decoration to show that I'm middle school! (old school would be an 808, I spose).

I've been looking for something new.

I use a Roland XP60 synth & sequencer.

It sounds great, but I am sick of the built in sounds (got it in '99).
New cards cost around $200, and they don't seem to update them often(also they are not geared as much towards drums as I would like)

I should look at this as an alternative, or some other kind of sequencer.

Um... Eye hope U didnt buy it at Sam Ash (that place is the worst). Its really hard 2 tell someone which 2 get. It took me a year b4 eye found one eye liked and could afford...b 4 that, it was all Triton, all the time (hehehe). Injoy it. and Good Luck.

It should arrive in the mail today. From my tests at the music store, and my research online, it looks like this thing has the customizationalability (uh, I can customize the sounds - panning, individual volume, eq, effects) and the sounds are more up to date than the Alesis SR16. Seems like most drum machines nowadays assume that you're happy with the panning/volume/effects that they've selected... I hate that.

So, I'll let ya know when I know.

I've got the DR-670. Seems ok to me. Although i'm yet to really mess with it properly.
