Help me with a Keyboard purchase

I want to buy a new keyboard. I want a really good professional one. Something that I can use to write and even use for gigs.

Can someone help me?

Im tired of playing the one my mom got me Christmas 1988

I recently bought a Yamaha EX-7. It's awesome, fantastic, I love it, EXCEPT that the SCSI interface card is no longer being manufactured. So, this keyboard is awesome, has sampling, sequencing and waveform capabilities, but without a SCSI interface, it all has to be stored via 3.5 diskettes.

So, all I'm saying is, be sure that your purchase is at least able to interface with a computer, unless you plan to just use the sounds that come with the keyboard. -- which, i LOVE the sounds in the machine, so, it's still an awesome machine, just, extremely limited now. Maybe that's why it's an "EX" model...

The Triton series seems to be really good for all-in-one workstations. And the Motif, (the next wave after the EX series) is also considered to be really good.

Yeah, I recommend one out of the Triton series or the Motif. Those were the toss-up choices for me before I did settle on a Triton Le. It's a great keyboard to say the least, and interfacing with both my computer and my multitrack is seamless. (Of course, you haven't heard anything that I've developed on it as of yet). The SCSI option gives access to a board that you won't see Korg drop for a long time to come.

On either the Tritons or the Motifs, the price is reasonable. Good luck!

Manki goes with the Nord series - swears by them. They look MIIIIIHGTY nice. Haven't seen him around here lately, but his music is AWESOME keyboard stuff.

So you want a keyboard? OK now what are they things that will effect you puchasing one?
Price, any perticular sounds your looking for?

Everyone will have a different opinion on this casue different, board excel at different things.
My suggestion would be to takea trip to Guitar cernter, or any place with a good stock of the latest boards. Dont take any cash with you! Just to snoop...lol

Play them, get an idea of the main features on them seqeuncing. expansion options, etc...
Then find what you like! THe one with sounds and options that will, fit with what your trying to do.

I was at GC, yesterday. I saw a Triton Pro for 1500 bucks! Thats a MADD Board for that price!

Just got out and start squeezing some tomato's...lol

A great board for under a grand would have to be the ROLAND XP-80 or 60. I'm a songwriter and I own the 60....I paid about 700.00 for it USED. This board is awesome all around, it has a built in sequencer which can record parts or full songs, and it also is expandable for up to four sound cards....which simply means if you are into Hip Hop, you can buy the expansion card HIP HOP and add about 300 new sounds to your board. Other expansion cards include Horns...D&B.....BASS....Country....Dance....and many others. This board is just like the Triton or the Motif...don't let anyone tell you any different...I worked at Guitar Center and Mars Music so I should know....the only difference is that the Triton and Motif have sampling abilities....not much use for anyone besides hip hop artists. If you are looking for BANG FOR YOUR BUCK, the XP keyboard is the way to go....all of the sounds are professional quality...and it is made by ROLAND.....enough said. Good Luck

Eye have a TRITON ... Now there R 3 versions (really 4.. but they wont tell u that at Sam Ash... First step -dont shop there!)... it all depends on what u need/want....

IF U want ALL the TRITON SOUNDS so far... U get the TRITON EXTREME (blue) - it has a HARD DRIVE BUILT IN/ NO CDR DRIVE, USB support, and Touch Screen controls (**4use with a computer is OPTIMAL) (there R more details, those R the main 5, HD, SOUNDS, USB, touch screen, 2 Program banks) - My personal favorite, might not b 4 U.

IF U want the LATEST TRITON - U get the V2.- CDR/ No HaRDdrive - (CDR, Some new SOUNDS, touch screen, 2 Program banks)(the sound cards R like $300 each - the EXTREME comes wil ALL OF THE SOUNDS SO FAR along with extra slots 4 new sounds that may come out)

If U want a AFFORDABLE TRITON U buy a LE version - BASIC SOUNDS, CDR/NO CDR(Choice) , and NO touch screen, ONE program bank

** All Tritons Have SEQUENCERS, COMBI(combining sounds), PROG (Program and edit the sounds), SAMPLING, SONG PLAY (record ur part 2 a song if u play in a band)

Alternative: Buy a USED TRITON MUSIC WORKSTATION/SAMPLER - touch screen, sounds built in vary upon user(will have the basic set 4 sure)... this is a MUCH BETTER BUY than N E of the LE versions... This is the one eye currently own (but boy eye would love 2 have that triton extreme - got the jay z dirt off ur shouders bass in there, along with ALOT of other HOT sounds) (CDR/NO CDR, BASIC SOUNDS, touch screen, ONE Program bank)

Another KEYBOARD: The NORD LEAD 2 <- this is the one (eye beleave) Prince would recommended 2 u ... it is a TRUE SYNTH ..... There is even a Rack 4 it that costs almost as much as the keyboard (Prince , eye remember , used this during NewPowerSoul days... eyem a almost certain he still does... it is a beautiful Instrument.. on another note... Little John may of 'killed' 'that sound' by now .... as he is the producer that U hear alot of in hip hop now)

My message : the key is RESEARCH .... U R going 2 spend ALOT of money on this one piece of equipment (ure gonna want more)... its gonna b with u 4 A WHILE (2 say the least)... It all depends on what U need and want 2 do... Eye have nothin against the Fantom or Motif... Eye like KORG , so eye no the Triton.

One
Michael

PS - The REAL ? is how many keys? U WANT ALLL OF THEM IF U ASK ME (especially 4 live shows)... if U R gonna use 4 PRODUCTION, then (save urself some cash):61.... but if U ever plan on using it live > ALL 88 (duh).
