Power of Soul: a tribute 2 jimi Hendrix . Having a listen 2 a sample of 'Purple House', from 'Power of Soul :tribute 2 hendrix.
There's only 31 seconds of streaming Audio, but it's kind of strange coz i just realised i've never heard Prince play the Blues.Got his cry baby wah happening, kind of weird. The thing that struck me straight of was, IT'S SLOW TEMPO, & gee that's sounding a lot like Otan.Very similar voice and a blues feel i've never heard from prince, but similar slower grinding tones i've heard in Beau's tracks. YEH NEVER HEARD PRINCE PLAY LIKE THAT: SLOW , FUNKY , BUT BLUES!....kind of... Heard it @ Princefams.com A short sample. Must find more of this Album, aint up to date with its release, sure i've seen something @P. ORG about it, too late in the day 2 browse . Make a comment if you will ~PClinuxOS~ I've been here longer than I care to remember, ... I drop in from time to time, ...

Ever heard of a song called "The Ride"? That's exactly what this "purplehouse" is. Of course 12 bar blues wasn't invented yesterday but you should check out prince live material (imports, boots, whatever) because he plays the blues quite a bit.

Go track down P's version of "Maybe Your Baby" from the "meet my heroes" boot. The solo in it is slow, bluesy and powerful.
And yeah, that blues-flavored stuff is definitely my favorite Prince stuff - from "Joy In Repetition", SOTT... I know Santana was his inspiration, but when he breaks into the Hendrix-flavored stuff, it's just awesome to me. I never really liked "The Ride". I wasn't trying to be a smartass. I was just saying that it's the same tempo and everything (as the ride) with the words to Red House.
Personally, I don't like "The Ride" that much either, it sounds to contrived. Like someone trying to play blues but a lot of his blues stuff is weak to me. With the bootlegs I've heard him do "whole lotta shakin'", "Voodoo Child", "Jailhouse Rock" and "What I Say" and random other blues tunes with Buddy Miles. IMO, it all lacks the intensity and passion compared to the funk covers (Maybe Your Baby, What Is Hip, Sex Machine, etc.).
