Hi haven't posted here for some time, hope all's cool and funked guys. Now, urgency calls and I'm desperate for inspiration from you guys. I've been asked if I want to give a performance at a concert held by my music school, and unnaturally, I said 'yeah, why not?', despite myself being able to answer that question....like, 'because I am gonna be really crap!'

I've been to one of these concerts before, and thankfully, I witnessed the limits of crudness as well as the brilliance. So I reckon I'm gonna do it for a laugh, so long as I rope a friend into being on stage with me...so that noone will be able to tell who's let of the (other) 'funk'.

I think the setting will be two electric guitars (me and my buddy), bass, keyboardist, drums. The other musicians will undoubtedly be a bunch of annoying 5 year old prodigies I'm trying to think of some relatively easy jam that would be perfect for two 'lead' guitarists (I would guess, taking turns with rythm/lead). Could be a slow blues, or jazz/rock fusion or even some pop song, so long as it sounds good instrumentally and not like it's missing the lyrics when played.....I AIN'T gonna sing! Not to that audience at least.

What would you guys do? By the way, this would be my first ever 'gig'!

Acoustic stuff is a little tricky but play anything with a rhythm and lead. Blues works well but if you're looking for covers think about bands with 2 guitarists. AeroSmith immediately comes to mind but the Dave Mathews and Tim Reynolds stuff is pretty amazing also (for 2 guys with acoustic guitars)

To make it interesting, how about one of you play with a clean tone and the other with a lot of distortion and harmonize a song back and forth.

Practice the heck out of it before your gig, whatever songs you choose. It will be fun!

always on the run! it's great for two guitars, you can groove over the jam, and improvise over teh verses.

TV Themes are always cool to work into instrumentals - it gives the audience an "oh! I recognize that stuff!" kinda reaction, not to mention that 60s and 70's tv show themes:

If you don't want to reinvent the wheel, you might consider an Allman Brothers instrumental.
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed or Hot 'Lanta for example. They sound like they're setup for your instrumentation and there's lots of solo room after the heads get played.
