how should a songwriter be paid?

I have two songs in an independent film "sexless" (one is in the title sequence) and I was just told by the producer to figure out what I want as future compensation should the film be picked up for 3 things (and any combination of)

1. theatrical distribution
2. video distribution
3. cable distribution

I'm about to get consultation by "Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts" and since I'm a memeber of BMI, I emailed them too...

anyone here have any ideas?

I need to go to the bookstore...

I agree with msserendipity that BMI should take care of you if you are a member.
The BMI site has info there regarding Mechanical, Synchronization and International licensing rights:
http://www.bmi.com/licensing/about.asp
http://www.bmi.com/licens...rights.asp
http://www.bmi.com/licens...ralfaq.asp

Btw, are you also registered with BMI as a publisher?
If not, it's probably something to think about for the future.

Congrats on the placement.

BMI won't take care of movie stuff: "BMI Doesn't License Mechanical and Synchronization Rights " taken right off the site.... sad

Correct. I said that they would have info on the subject.
They will "take care of you" regarding your royalties as a songwriter.
Did you take note of the fact that mech and sync license payments also go to the publisher?

This might be another source for info:
