Been chatting to some mates about additive synths, and came across www.symbolicsounds.com who are selling a synth called Kyma for 2 grand.
Read through the info and it sounds crazy, but cant afford the price.
I downloaded some free ones off kvr-vst and am getting some interesting results.

Just wondered if anyone has used additive synths and what you think of them.

Is it anything like Granular synthesis? I ain't used these either.
I've used LA Synthesis, FM Synthesis and PD synthesis (the latter I use today on my CZ-101).

I only used a software synth on mac a long time ago which was capable of additive synthesis. I thought it was too much of a hassle to get anything useful out of it (you have to define all harmonics). Often the same thing can be done with clever FM or PM. With additive you have more freedom, but that usually also means more work to create a good sound.
I tried many kinds of synthesis, but I always went back to subtractive synths (or LA which is basically the same). More limited maybe, but their sounds always seem to mix better with my music.
Granular synthesis is something completely different from additive.

Ive been mucking around with it for a bit now, and it is hard sometimes to get things to work exactly how I want it. But I love the way you can morph different sounds into the next, or combine two elements together so seamlessly,
Its also quite a wacky concept to be able to draw sounds in Paint, and import the bmp image to produce sounds, (many lost hours drawing pictures now, great )
I love making sounds genrally, so if you have any interesting ways of producing sounds, let me know. (made a nice string sound using vocoders, a mic, a fan, my zippo and opening and shutting a CD case )
