Most of you probably know my former account (Heavenly), but I'm now known as MrSoundMan.
Most artists on this forum are musicians, and most of them are people who create their music at home, since going to the studio and hiring proffessionals and proffessional equipment is too expensive. So I thought about creating a series of threads with tips and tricks on how to improve your recording skills, recommend some good equipment and also improve your computer performance, so eventually you will have better sounding results.

I would like first to give you some background about me.
I'm a sound engineer from Jerusalem, Israel. I started studying sound about 10 years ago in a school here in Israel, and during my studies also started working in a small studio, mainly doing post production for student's films (recording on ProTools III system) and also doing commercials for the radio (using Logic Audio) and participating in recording an album that the studio produced, for an ethnic singer (using Alesis ADATs).

After about a year, I've moved to another studio, this time a dubbing studio. We dubbed TV programs for kids for all major TV stations here in Israel. I started there as a sound engineer, and along the years also added Director and actor to my job description. The recording systems there were (first was Fostex 16 Tracks 1/2" reels, then we bought the old studio I worked in and had the ProTools III system, then bought a new ProTools 5 system which is still being used there today).

After 5 years I've moved to yet another studio, this time a music recording studio, and been working there ever since. 7 months ago I became the head sound engineer there.
We record all kinds of music. Ethnic, Middle Eastern, Rock, Pop Jazz and Blues.
The studio is one of the best in Jerusalem and the equipment there is the best that money can find.
We first worked on Alesis ADAT XT, with external A/D D/A converters by Swisonic, and then we moved to record on a PC using Cobase SX with a Nuendo sound card, still using the same Swisonic converters. I'm trying to convince my boss to get a ProTools system, but I think he's about to move back to the US, so maybe the studio will close down.
