A whole lotta vocals

Hi smile

I just updated the song 'High Steppin Lady' with a new version with a whole lotta vocals added (sung by the new singer of the band).
http://www.soundclick.com...amusic.htm

I'd love to hear you opinions about the additions. I mean, does it fit? Is it too much? I personally think it's cool, but maybe that's just because it's still fresh and new and all smile
Thanks!

Erik

This song is sooo hot! I reallly love the feel. The tempo is perfect.
You guys did a great job miking and recording ecspecially the drums.

The vocalist is average. He is a lil flat at parts. During the Chorus the "High Stepping lady" shoud soar vocally, but it sounds like he was flat and didnt have the range so you guys drowned him with the horns and stuff.

I just want to give honest feedback. Please dont take offense, with a real singer this song would just be over the Top! But great singers are hard to find. If this guy is the best you can do it will still work and sound cool tho.

Julian do you know me? Have we met? Please dont call into question my sincerity, when you dont know me or have any basis for it.

Often people just tell artist what they want to hear. It may make them feel good, but is it really helping them make progress? He didn't ask me for emotional support, he asked for feedback, I gave it. He and his band are very talented, thats obvious, I just gave my opinion on what I think could make them even better.

Prince made a interesting comment in his acceptance speech. "True friends are not people on your payroll" They also say "Rich men and beatiful women never here the truth." We all have goals to either make money with our art or to just inprove our craft. Instead of just massaging someones ego, I always try to point out the ligitamate good things and also offer something constructive, so the artist can keep pushing forward. Most creative, progressive artist I know, long for and love that, cause it makes them better. Why do you think P surrounds himself with the best musicians? To push him. Its all in love brother.

Peace

Thanks for the feedback man, I really do appreciate it.
Honestly there was not much miking going on. It's all recorded at home and the drums in high steppin lady is a sample loop. Except the singing, everything was plugged in directly. The 'guitar' is actually a bass that was pitched up an octave, inserted a cabinet simulator and a whole lot of overdrive (for the lack of a real guitar atm). There's no horns in there though. The keyboards is just a rhodes. The 'rhythm guitarish' thingy is a rhodes with an envelope filter.
You're right about the vocals being a tiny bit on the flat side. I had some doubts but now I'm sure. He had a hard time reaching the high parts because it's exactly on a breaking point in his voice. I think we'll have to redo some of them.

Oh, and never mind Julien. wink tease

Hey I dig the vocals too! It's just that I know the singer can get the vocals perfectly in tune with a just a little more effort.
And we might have little a surprise for y'all later concerning the vocals wink

Littlewing... Number one...

Back the f**k off me, bro. No,I don't know you, and you don't know me. Don't assume I meant what YOU thought I meant and proceed to lecture me, k?

All I was doing was AGREEING with you with my comment, but whatever insecutiries you foster made you take it to a different level. I am a man who respects ALL opinions, regardless of whether they are mainstream or taboo, and believe that everyone has the right to their respective opinions.

That said, I'm cool with you as long as you squash your beef, savvy? And I'll even be the bigger man and say I'm sorry that you misinterpreted my comments and offended you.

I have no beef with you at all. Its not that serious. I wasn't lecturing, but I did and will continue to always challange anyone who attacks my character.
Basicaly you qouted me and then said..."Things that make you go "hmmmmm....."

It appeard to me you were responding to a qoute. You say you were agreeing with it.
In the actual post, it isnt clear or specific who/what you were refering too.
This has nothing to do with me being "insecure" as you put it, it does have to do with the vague way the post was written.

Misunderstandings happen. If thats what you say you meant, then I'm glad thats the way you meant it, its clear now. If you didn't mean it the way I thought you meant it my comments don't apply to you.

As I said, I nvr had a beef. Thanks for clarifying your post!

I'm actually a world-class d**k these days because I have more issues than Sports Illustrated... but a handshake and a smile later, all is good in the world. razz

I don't grudge, Littlewing... especially because I respect your music.

But as far as Erik goes... HIS music leaves us BOTH buried in the mud.

"Yo Erik!... *says Julian as he sobs in his beer* "We LOVE you, man!" biggrin
