I have a GROUPIE!

So I'm playing a gig last night (saturday) just as a sideman - doing the guitar and backing vocals. This girl walks in, looking like Sharon Stone from Casino - I swear... it's her twin.

The lady is obviously a fan of the leader of this band... calls out a couple of originals, so I know she's bought the CD (that I recorded some tracks on).

Half way through the first set, she positions herself in front of me and just grins and enjoys the show. I'm married, so i'm not looking, and I'm SURE she's got some huge face-breaking date with her, so I pretty much avoid eye contact.

After the set, she comes up to me and says, I SWEAR I'm not making this up, "I LOVE your music! I can't believe you're playing here with Lola tonight (the leader of the band). I found you on Soundclick and love all your songs, and when I bought Lola's CD and saw that you played on it, I asked her if you play live with her. She said occasionally, so I came out to her show two weeks ago, but you weren't playing".

By now, I'm looking to see who put her up to this joke. No hidden cameras, no other band members giggling uncontrollably.

She goes on to say that she walked into the bar and was so excited to see me playing, she turned to her two friends and says "THAT'S HIM! The guy i've been telling you about, from Ultrasound."

I SWEAR I'm not making this up to draw you over to listen to my songs. I wont even post the link. It's irrelevant.

I've played in bands for years, and I've had people come up and say they liked my music, liked my playing, liked my shoes, whatever. But NEVER has someone come up who heard my music before they ever heard of me, and came up as a fan.

She bought me several beers and we talked for awhile. It was awesome - she asked me questions about different songs - what did they mean, why did I write about my son's death, whatever. The more she talked the less I believed it was a joke.

And then another girl came up to tell me that she liked my playing, and while I was being polite and thanking her, she asked if this other girl, (the Sharon Stone lookalike) was my wife. I said no, she's just a fan... and Sharon Stone says "I'm his groupie. i love his songs. you should hear HIS stuff".

Kinda creepy in a "Play Misty For Me" kind of way. But who cares. I thought it was awesome. makes me want to start my own band up again.

I like groupies. Groupies are fun. smile

I had this lady follow me to about three bars that I was playing until finally, I walked over one night in between sets and talked to her. She digs my voice and the way I dance and all, so I'm thinkin, "SCORE!"

We hit it off, and she wanted to cook me a nice dinner and all.

So a few nights later, I'm freshening up the apartment and trying to get rid of my friend Bobby before this lady arrives... and there's a knock at the door. So Bobby figures he'll get the door on his way out.

He opens it and says, "Oh SHIT! What are YOU doing here?"

You ready for this... it was his EX-WIFE!!!

Needless to say, THAT date was over before it got started, and so me and Bobby went out and got DRUNK!

Aah, groupies. Groupies are fun. But the world is too f***ing small.

A groupie that looks like Sharon Stone, wow! I love groupies, you know, especially when they look like Sharon! lol

My best "groupie experience" was a long long time ago when I was the singer of a lousy 70's rock coverband. Once I sat myself down in the bus opposit of a beautiful blonde chick and her boyfriend, and she goes like "Wow, you're the singer of that rockband, I thought you were really good last week in the club, blablabla...". As she kept on praising me, looking at me in complete adoration, she got so 'creamified' I believe she almost slipped out of her chair, LOL! You should have seen the annoyed look on her boyfriends' face, too funny! As she got out of the bus she turned around to wave and smile at me for one last time, and unfortunately that was the last I've ever seen of her. But anyway, my ego got boosted enormously. All hail to the groupies!

hey Thanks Flux! That was a nice thing to say. Definitely get out there. The only thing stopping anyone from playing their music live is themselves... and it's a hell of an obstacle.

Thanks yall. I ain't bragging. Okay. I am. It was just bizarre, having spent all these years playing my own songs and the only folks that like them are friends that already know me... OR, drunk folks at a bar that would most likely forget what BAR they were in the next morning.

It's stories like these that make me wonder how I could ever be married (especially to a hottie like your wife)

One of my fav Groupie comments. I think it was a Stones show. Chick walks up and says "I must speak with Keith, I heard that he just lost a very good friend and I want to give him my deepest symphony".

And she was serious.

Joker - Soundclick.com seems to be the best for the price right now. (free, unlimited songs).

My story with my wife is sort of similar - except I cornered her in a bar and told her I was awesome - I'd just finished mixing and burning 5 copies of our first record and made the bartender play the thing. I went home with her and I've never left. And never will.

great story Beau. that is some strong temptation. I had a similar experience and it is a great feeling to know that someone actually pays us any attention and that our music does make a difference for someone out there in the world.
