What's "NEWS"...explanation A while ago I asked the question "What's "NEWS" to you?"
First, I appreciate the opinions of all those that responded. The reason for the question was my curiosity with how people currently react to long-form instrumental/improvisational music in general and specifically an instrumental album from someone primarily known as a pop-star. For most of the '90s I stopped listening to almost all pop music in favor of jazz, fusion and percussion driven music. Recently while a co-worker was listening to some instrumental music I was working on, he asked whether i'd heard Prince's NEWS CD and brought it over for me to listen to. Imagine my surprise to hear an instrumental Prince CD. The last album of his that i'd purchased, Lovesexy. Otan explained that this was not a new thing and that he'd done this before on the MADHOUSE records. News to me...if you will. These recordings seem to be hard to come by but thanks for the heads up. So if anyone is interested in a little of what Tribal Disorder does, click the name after the PEACE sign. What you will hear is a track that's being built via sequencer. Some of the tracks will eventually be replaced and added to by real musicians (trumpet, bass, percussion) in May. The live guitar track will also be recut. Outside of the melody and the tune's basic pulse, the final arrangement is still being tweaked. It's almost a 3MB mp3 file so those on dialup are forewarned. Thanks again for the opinions.
