What Is The One PIece Of Gear You Couldn't Live Without?

What's the one piece of gear you own that you couldn't live without and why?

My check card. I'm always willing to try out something new.

So yeah, my check card. It's everywhere I want to be.

I would say my Telecaster, but I've done gigs with other guitars so it's not a "must have", I would say my amp, but, again, I could replace it and not be too upset. AH. I know.

My Guitar Picks.

Acoustic guitar. My most basic songwriting tool.

I'd have to say my acoustic guitar, also. No, my rubber vagina.....no, no, my acoustic guitar. Speaking of gear...I had an idea for a cool thread where we could post pictures of the gear we use, etc. Of course I have no idea how to put a pic on here. Anyway, Otan - you have a Strat, right? Did you replace the pick-ups in it to get rid of the annoying hum? Just wondering.

nope. I just use lead-coated pickguards and lead-lined cavity in the guitar body, triple-coated cables no longer than 6 feet long, face 45-degrees from the angle of the amp, be sure the amp is more than 7 feet from the outlet, oh, and turn the f*cker way up.

Covers up the hum everytime.

Pretty scary photo, I know. I'm a single coil man. Always will be. Humbuckers sound nasty when played clean. And not nasty good. Nasty bad. But don't shoot my ass. That's just an opinion, right?

Ahhh... it would have to be one of 2 or 3 guitars I have. hehe I have a Gibson SG that I love to play now. It's the guitar I used most as of late. I do have a Harmony guitar that I completely gutted too though and I basically only kept the wood. I put new everything on it. I LOVE the new pick ups I have on it and it's by far the most versatile guitar I have. I only wish it had a "whammy bar" on it, then it would be perfect. Same goes for the SG. hehe I have also a "Hendrix Strat" but it kinda sucks because it's basically left handed strung right and I am used to humbucker pick ups now. Oh well. Either my SG or my customized Harmony. I can't pick one. hehe My Marshall Plexi Halfstack would have to be the amp I play through though. :+P I suck with these "You can only pick one" questions. hahaha Take care everybody.

Hey, I have an natural ash-maple strat outfitted with some noiseless Kinman blues pickups. They're great for jazz, SRV, Santana and Prince tones. All 5 positions are noise-free, but they're not "perfect," if you get me.

But, sadly, my little Deluxe Super Strat gets fatter tones. The hum isn't so bad, either. The most diverse-sounding guitar I've played. I love it. That'd be my favorite piece of gear, these days.

I agree- anything is replaceable. Its all just stuff. Acoustic guitar for songwriting: check. Teles? Yep. Gotta a real gem. Amps? Haven't found my soul mate there yet. But one thing I would name check for everyone is my old Dunlop Rotovibe. I started kicking it on the lowest "green" setting just to warm up the clean sound of my 30 watt Marshall Artist. And I've pretty much never turned it off since unless I wanted a really gritty dry sound. Its just a great little do-dad and I've found that especially recording I don't sound like "me" without it. I think everyone should search for that one little something that makes them sound unique. For SRV it was his strat. For Bill Gibbons it was Pearly. For Joan Jett the Gibson Melody Maker. On and on...

I agree with Otan: my guitar picks. I suck without a pick, I really do. I've learned the hard way to always carry one around just in case the need to play arises.
