Writer's Block once again

The old well is just about on empty again. The only thing I could come up with is "3/12". I tried to use the good ol' advice of listening to your favorite artists to come up with inspiration and the song turned out to be a blatant rip off of Days of Wild. So in my depressed funk, I'm going to take down about 3/4s of the songs off my Soundclick page (especially the ones that no one is listening to anymore) and get ready to make room for new stuff.

In the meantime lemme know whatcha think of "3/12"

Don't sweat it psyko! Think of this as time to recharge your batteries, check out other music, check out other forms of art in general, and just...well, RECHARGE! Good luck!

i will get it 2morrow cuz ur soundclick link aint workin rite now. When was the last time u made a song. Have u burned out? I think i'm burnt out for right now. I made at least 10 beats this week, and my last one was very lame. Hmmm, try some Kanye West / Just Blaze sampling for a while man, that's somewhat refreshing. I hope 2 hear that 3/12 is ponkay!

Oh and dont erase everything, i needs sum shit, like ur last two songs.

Damnit, I finally sit down to listen and soundclick is down. pout

Anywho, you're one of the most prolific guys on here as far as ideas go, so don't sweat it. It's the natural ebb and flow of creativity. Just look at how many tracks you had on soundclick and you'll see much you've created.

Guitarslinger has some great suggestions. Just like you said, the well is dry, so you just gotta wait for it to fill up again.

Thanks guys. I think that's why I'm really frustrated. I spent the last few weeks with a new recorder, new guitar, new processor, new bass and no new ideas. Thanks for listening and thanks for your attempts to listen biggrin

what the hell u talkin about this is all u can come up with? Boy i'd aughta smak u upside the head! Man 3/12 is THA CUT! I love it! That synth sounds like a part that was supposed 2 be in the "The Max" u know that line? The same one that is in "Rave Un2..." done by a keyboard not a guitar this time. The beat and guitar is dope! I wish i could play like that man!

One thing is that u probably only ran out of stuff because u know everything that u have. We dont. So everything that I hear from u is almost like a gift. It's a gift 2 hear ur music, at least 2 me because I await 2 hear new things by u. Just like we do for our idols. That's y we runa nd buy their shit.

And everything i hear u come out with it is an inspiration 2 me. Im glad u do post new stuff often so that eye dont be wanting. Thanx man!

I think the best things come out of me when I do just the opposite - instead of listening to those that I want to emulate, I listen to music as far away removed as possible; ska, classical music, bluegrass, country... just fill your head with music that is not a part of your target genre... if that makes sense. That way, when you come to the keys, drums, guitar, pan flute, you'll have a lot of other reference material floating around your ears that will help you pull interesting stuff outta your ass.

Muscially, I mean.

EDIT:
AND. On top of all that other B.S. I just spewed out, if you're in a defeated mood, then you may not appreciate your creations, even tho everyone else seems to think that's it's good.

This is pretty good. It's no ZAMFIR, but it'll do.

I'm going back to sleep now. We're tearing up the kitchen and rebuilding it at home, to sell the house. The computer is disconnected at home - and even if it werent, I got NO time to play these days. Totally sucks.

When faced w/ writer's block I recommend switching instruments. Especially to one you don't play well. This forces you to forget technique and such and really listen to what you're doing. For me keyboard is good because I'm not a keyboard player and don't know chords. Drums are also good. Or something tuned differently like a mandolin... anything to get yourself into unfamiliar territory where you don't know the rules. If you don't *know* the rules you don't have to *follow* them!!

I thought this had died and gone off to oblivion somewhere. Thanks for the advice. Best thing for me is probably to surround my ears with new stuff by artists other than my top 5. I'm keeping my ears open for you guys right now.
