Lend me an ear...

Hi all,
I haven't posted here in ages but I've been watching from the shadows...
There are some really talented people on here and I wanted to get your opinion(s). I've been recording for years but only recently got the courage to start playing stuff to other people. Like a lot of P fans, I play and produce everything...which is very convenient, but also a curse: sometimes I wish I could hear my stuff with a fresh pair of ears. I find that the other downside of doing everything yourself is that most of the time you wind up sounding too much like your influences. So I need all you orgers to be my new set of ears and give me some honest feedback. I can take (constructive) criticism too, so lay into me if you feel the urge...

I've got 2 very different tracks for you to hear, I'm still trying to find 'my' sound so tell me which style u prefer..

Final Straw - acoustic, chilled, angsty (?)

Candy Store - upbeat, funky...bit of a P vibe...

Check 'em out at http://www.soundclick.com/fuzztone

Thanks!

Final Staw - pretty. nice shouffle in the drums. Is that a rhodes piano? Dig the lyrics.
Candy Store- I LOVE this track. Great work. the rythem guitar and percussion is really sweet! Ear Candy for sure!

That was quick!
Thanks for feedback...I thought the P fans would dig Candy Store more than the other one! Yeah, that's a rhodes on FS... can't live without the rhodes...
I'm checking out the NFO now.I knew it existed but didn't think of submitting anything. It's probably too late now but i'll post the link there anyways...

Candy Store is sweet. I'll be your first oddball here. I prefer Final Straw. The only thing missing is an orchestra, IMO.

Actually I love Final Straw.
Your right the rhodes has such a sweet sound.
We need to fix the two in the studio. One of the E flat rods are broken. Where do you find replacement parts for an older model. We have in the studio a 1972 and a 1973 model.

What is the name of that medel rod that the hammer strikes?

Those are what we need to find.

I'll let u in on a secret - I'm actually using a rhodes VST by emagic on final straw. I live in the UK and rhodes (in good condition) are very hard to find. I had one 'on loan' for about 6 months but they asked for it back! eek
Good luck finding replacements yamomma - I'm guessing u live in the states so at least u stand a chance!

talmuzic, jusme4u: thank you for taking the time to listen. And, more importantly, thank you for your comments! I totally agree with talmuzic about the kind of talent P has spawned...I've listened to all of u and, well, it's almost sickening...
I'll be uploading more tunes as my confidence grows. Rest assured, I'll let u know of any updates. biggrin

I feel like u do as far as having the confidence to upload new music. I know it's not a competition, but a person does want to represent a good work.

OH MAN why's there only one song up there now?

This is great. Maybe over compressed, but shoot, that's the music today. WOW I like this song. It's got the hook, the dynamics, the instrumentation.

The only flaw is that I wish I wrote it!

Standout lyric: "flip you over just to hear the B side". THAT is nice.

Thanks for the props, otan - much appreciated.
I took the other track down because I decided it was a bit lame. I tend to get really excited about a song WHILE I'm recording it and then when it's over I take a few steps back and try and see if it still hits me. Basically, the other track is seriously cheesy and generic and I should just concentrate on making funky music like Candy Store instead...

Sorry guys - didn't mean to sound like i was fishing for compliments and it's not that I don't care for your opinions... It's just I couldn't stop cringing when I heard it again the other day. I actually felt embarassed that I wrote it. Maybe it's just me...Do any of u ever feel this way about stuff you've written?
I promise to upload it again with some new (and infinitely better) stuff next month.
