Songs you wish you wrote

I just heard King of Pain by the Police on the radio. Damn. What a great song. The lyrics are soooo wonderful.

What songs make you think: "Damn, wish I was that brilliant..."

This probably applies to 75% of the music I own. So I have to answer based on what's been in rotation in my house:

Recent song I wish I had written: 'Sweet Erotica' by Jshua
Older song I wish I had written: 'You Are What I'm All About' by The New Birth Inc.

Tori is the bomb. We'd be here all day if I went down the list of her songs I thought were brilliant.

Hey Jupiter

Lust
Riot Proof
Juarez

Yeah that's what I meant. I wasn't just talking about lyrics. So I guess I should include Vivaldi! LOVE him. Anything by him is just straight from the heavens.

"Nite N Day" by Al B Sure. That sounds just like something I woiuld come up with! evil lol

"Always Be There" by Basement Jaxx & "Breakaway". Got damn if that is not funky and got damn they beat me 2 it!

"Free Xone" by Janet those random samples and complexity it out of sight!

Last but not least, "Perfect Way" by Scritti Politti. My beats would be different but the melody and arrangement of lyrics can be all me!

Beau said stairway to heaven, sometimes i think how jimmy page was feeling when he heard that guitar intro after he done it, i mean, that's so brilliant that it's even ridiculous, i know it's overplayed and everything but that is the most incredible piece of music ever written IMO, i don't like very much the riffs at the end, it's cool but nothing brilliant but that intro is pure joy and inspiration

Yup. Actually - both songs I listed are 3-parter songs - intro part, middle groove, and outro groove. Both songs - (don't kill me on this) like Freebird also - are epic songs in that they start out so simple and yet complex in the chord structure, and then in the end, it's just a house-busting groove.

I really wish I could do that - start out with one song, simple with complex chords, and end up with something entirely different, kickass with simple chord progression.

All I get is the second part. 2-3 chord progression. Thru the whole song. All day. All night.
