Remembering Phyllis Hyman: a new A Capella at Soundclick

The song is "You Just Don't Know". I did it about 4 years back and I wasn't sure about posting it but I gotsta admit it.. Ms. Hyman was an incredible vocalist. She gave my voice quite a workout.

The vocals are drenched in reverb as I tried to imagine what it would be like hearing her in a large music hall with just a microphone. It's really all she needed.

Thank you for the music Phyllis.

giggle Thanks pp4.

It's from the album Living All Alone
(above).

The title cut is what hooked me. It's the shizzle.. seek, seek, seek. I'd be more than happy to make a Phyllis Hyman compile for you. I've been meaning to do this anyway.

Thanks again for listening.

good job man!
OMG I looove Phyllis Hyman! I want to play her in a movie of her life story someday. One of the most beautiful people I have ever seen and one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.Living All Alone is my favorite, but I also like No one Can Love You More,Old Friend, and of course You Just Don't Know. If anyone hasn't heard of Phyllis they need to check her out!

Thanks for the info Vina. I haven't fully checked it out yet but I will in the morning.

NikkiH, No One Can Love You More is great! All of her 70's stuff is just sublime. Did you get the posthumous "Forever With You". I think it dropped in '98. There are some truly tasty cuts on that CD and I especially like her remake of Hurry Up This Way Again.. Flawless.
thanks for listening.

Very haunting...in a good way, of course. You just inspired me to pull this cd out and give it a spin. It's probably my favorite Phyllis album especially for the title track.

BTW, I still want to add music to your version of God. I just got a digital recorder and it will be a lot easier for me to work with once along with the downloaded MP3.

Yes I have Forever With You...I think Phyllis,Chaka Kahn, and Patti LaBelle are my favorite 3 female singers ever. Although I do have a thing for Angela Winbush and Alicia Myers. It's so weird to talk about it because most of my friends(except for my best friends...she an old school chick too,who is also a singer.)Have no idea who I'm talking about. (I'm 20)

Alicia Myers.. Wow! Now that's a name I haven't heard in a while. I can't place any of her solo stuff at the moment but I dig her work with One Way.

Angela Winbush.. Smile... Angel... worship

You have great taste in music. Any songs in the can? I'd like to hear ya..

Thanks. My mom raised me well! I did have some stuff up,but I took it down because the quality was bad, just some scratch demos here and there. I'm in negotiations at a local studio now to squeeze in some time. I've taken the semester off from school to concentrate on my career. When I finish recording in the studio I'll send you some mp3s. I wish I could record at home better, but I'm not a good engineer, I'm a better musician, composer, songwriter, and singer.
Alicia Myers solo-check out a song called Say,Say,Say. It's my favorite.
I love Angela Winbush's Angel too-when she hits that "D" towards the end..amazing.
I don't sound like them though..I sound like my self I guess:)

"into" meaning that's what she wants a career in. She loves Old school R&B and hip hop though.
