Heavenly

My new mobile recording studio

Been working on my home computer for a while, but it's full of other stuff too that interferes with my work.

So I just got a laptop that I would use for music only.
It's an IBM Thinkpad T-20. (only 750 Mhz but works well)
I also bought the M-Audio Firewire-410. A great sound card with 2 line/mic in, 8 analog outs, and digital I/O (optical and spdif). Also has 2 headphone outputs with individual volume control, so I can record another musician outside, without the need of speakers.
I work with Cubase SX
And my VTSi are:
Reason 2.5
Spectrasonics Trilogy
Spectrasonics Atmosphere
Spectrasonics Stylus
Native Instruments B4
Native Instruments Pro-53
Steinberg Halion sampler (with lots of great sample CDs)
Steinberg Virtual Guitarist (Acoustic and electric edition)
Steinberg Groove Agent.
Edirol Orchestral
And a few more free VSTi

Working with plugins such as Waves Platinum, TC Words, Amplitube and Lexicon.

For mastering purposes I'll use Wavelab 4.

I have a friend with a Neumann U-67 tube microphone which I will gladly borrow. and Shure SM-58. I can also borrow some Mic's from the studio that I work in.
So I'm pretty much settled.

I have a Fender Telecaster + Stratocaster and a Gibson Les Paul Studio with Danowah, Marshall ed-1 compressor and Digitech RP2000. and also a Roland MIDI Keyboard controller. The studio I work in also has the POD XT if the other effects are not enough for the guitar.

:W00t: Time to make some funky music!!!

Wow! How much did all that cost? I was thinking of setting up a seperate computer for music and a laptop would probably be best since I'd like to perform semi-live eventually.

YOUR SYSTEM IS WHAT I ASPIRE TO!

I have the laptop (sony viao), reason, cubase etc. But Im waiting on that very M-audio you have!

I'm really keen to find out from you how the m-audio performs with instruments. Do you use a blackbox thingy or does it have a preamp inside?

I'm still missing the firewire for connecting the external 120gb hard drive and sound card to the laptop, so I can't work yet bawl
It should arrive tomorrow, hopefully pray

The guy who's setting the system up for me, will also donate 20gb of samples woot!

I don't have anything recorded yet.
But I'm working on a website, that will show my works as a sound engineer, and hopefully my own music too.
Since I can't really sing bawl I'll have to just work on the music and let someone else sing.

I just might have to take you up on that. The only problem is, if you produce a track for me and it sounds super cool, the rest of my cd will sound crappy. Unless you produce my whole album...

Still, swaping wave files takes lots of time. sigh

well, first of all. we could start with one track. see if we're on the same wave.
second, I have no problem working on a whol;e album if you like what I'm doing.
Third. I have no problem leaving my internet open with an ftp server, so you can download at your own time. smile

The M-Audio I bought has pre-amps inside. on my desktop computer I have the M-Audio Audiophile. it works great with VSTi. about 6-10 ms latency. you can't really feel the latency with such speed.
It works well, no gliches.
And the sound is great! the new M-Audio I bought will sound even better. I just hope the pre-amps are good enough.
