NEW SONG. must be the full moon.

EVERYBODY HAVE A PARTY

Level 42 meets Go West meets Chemical Brothers meets Brothers Johnson meets The Time... (cuz the lyrics are so close to DMSR or Jungle Love)

I LOVE this song.

I'm not one to usually pat myself on the back, but DAMN I have a cramp from patting myself on the back. This tune is the coolest thing I've recorded in a long time. Now, if I could just get a soundproof vocal booth to lay into the lyrics - but hey, whatever.

But I'm sure it's still just too crackered up for some folks. Screwem. I LOVE this jam. All it took was a $1500 keyboard, quitting my latest band, and a full moon to push me out of my writer's block.

And I'm cinredibly flattered! Thanks. I went back and started to re-do the vocals this morning... I dunno. I'm starting to like the weak falsetto thing - like a Marvin Gaye: Got To Give It Up kind of thing. Well. Okay. THAT, and I can't holla that high up.

Serves me right for writing the music first and creating the melody second.

I haven't really done a bass workout in awhile - this tune had the room for it. No need to throw it out there on every song - well. okay. if I COULD play badass like Cloud9 or Dre, yeah, I WOULD throw it out on every song.

Man, I didn't know you had this kind of funk in you. You have me it possible to hear Level 42 and Brothers Johnson in one tune. This is kick-ass and one of those grooves that could go on for days. worship

falloff

I don't know where I was thinking Level 42 on this one - I spose the bass - Mark King is the MAN. It all started out listening to Go West's We Close Our Eyes - one o my favorite 80's cheese dance songs. I love the emphasis on the 2 and 4 insted of the 1 & 3.

And I went from there - the flanged rhythm guitar is definitely a callback to Level 42 as well... but it's buried.

Time to go back and remix, remix, remix.

Love it Beau!

If it could be made better (I'm not sure if it's possible) but I want that funky keyboard louder and maybe bouncing from speaker to speaker. Also it would be cool to break it down (just drums or just bass by itself)

Great bass playing but where's the funky Telecaster?

Yes yes. I was listening to it this morning and thinking the same thing on the lead keyboard. The tele is in there, but it's just a support instrument - no need to throw it out there on every song... too many things competing for the same sonic space - bad mixing practice, G.

Yes this is very nice. U should put some barrotone vocals in the background with ur falcetto, it would make the vocals stand out a little more.

I like the beat, and the beginning was nice 2. I dont know the keyboard that good either, but i try my best dunce

Nice 2 hear ur jams again

Glad you like it Ahammond. Do you play? Record? just curious. not too many folks venture into the rabid land of the org musicians section - also known as the nursery.

Okay - IF yer interested - I've updated the mix - added a lil bit o this, lil bit o that, and put the guitar and lead keys higher up in the mix... changed the drum patterns.. but - I dunno if I'm sterilizing it now or adding to it.

I missed the Must be the Full Moon song, but I'm listening to Everybody Have a Party now.
This is great man, yeah I just love the bass! The piece sounds real complex but not messy. The breakdown at the end is really inspired, I like it! Do you use a voice box at the beginning (and underlying throughout)? "Everybody everybody". Very cool. Can you tell me the order of things layed down for this? i'm guessing drums, bass, synths etc.? This is something I'm doing for the first time proper as I've never really put any thought into anything more than guitar and voice. In fact I'm programming drums for the first time which is a nightmare.

Love the new mix! I hear the guitars and I love the variation on the beat. That voice box thing is cool, I never heard it in the first mix. Love the outro and the first keyboard solo

Actually, the first thing I did was the piano hits. I found them when I was just messing around - trying to see if I was able to play keys in a song in E. (I'm going to be playing keys in my band, and, well, um, I've never done that, so, I'm trying to learn myself some keyboarding asap).

Actually, no, I did the drums first - I wanted a drum beat similar to "We Close Our Eyes" by Go West - just plain ol' straight up 4 on the floor drums.

Anyhow, the piano, which is almost BURIED now in the mix, and then the drums. Then the synth line over it, and then the bass guitar, and lastly, the elec guitar.

Somewhere in all that, the lyrics came to me.

And the vocoder was added last night to beef it up some, and I modified the drums last night too.

Now, to do the vocals. Maybe I'll hit them tomorrow morning.

yeah - maybe add some cajones to them, maybe make the third verse not be a freeform mumble fest, couple of other parts to cleanup before I start handing this out at every nightclub in town.

But maybe it's me wacky mr.green

Don't change the ending, it's good
