New tracks - updated 2/7

New tracks...

Mellosmoothjazz
The Sly Hit...(basically the demo version of Mellosmoothjazz...slightly funkier)
Soul Ballad #7
The B-Side when I get my Zoom 1044 this Friday, I'm definitely going to give this one the professional treatment.

Just added...

Stoneflower ... I think it's a nice slice of funk & roll. biggrin

Checking them out right now. Love your keyboard work, as usual.

B-Side. VERY cool groove. Are you playing the drums live? Or did you program them? They sound VERY live - whether thats tapping on the buttons, or playing a real kit - I dunno - but just sounds spontaneous as opposed to my loopzilla'd stuff lately.

I'm kind of embarassed because it's a junior drum kit I bought my 7 year old. I added keyboard embellishments. Now that I've heard "Everybody Have a Party", I've got to attempt to come up with some outright stank funk like that.

Love this stuff and I can't believe you're playing a junior set!

Love the mellow stuff, great keys as usual.

B-Side is the song that really hits me strong (maybe it's the kit) love the groove and the changes. Is that a guitar being played by you or a sample?

HAY!!! "The Sly Hit" is funky! I really enjoyed this track! Head bobbin! Somehow u manage 2 bring new styles of funk in every way! And it sounds so underground and original, like it belongs in the late 70's basement kind of funk, but i still feel the new style 2 it!
I have 2 say Sly Hit is more catchy 2 me that Mellowsmooth. Not that it isnt good, but it lost summa da funk.

B-Side was almost similar 2 Mellowsmooth, but it was more jazz influenced, nice track.

Soul Ballad...OOOh! I can hear sum nasty talk on this one!
What u said u was gonna do 2 that girl boy!?

WAIT A MINIT - you're playing a junior kit? It sounds mighty good for a junior kit. The chorus over it helps fatten it up. Now, all you need is to mount some triggers on it so drive a drum machine to reinforce the sounds.

Right.

Or, just keep on keepin on with that stank!

I can't wait to start my boy on some instruments. I got the 16 yr old working a real drumkit AND learning to program a drum machine. I have high expectations. We start guitar lessons this weekend. That's the hard part - I see him every other weekend. With Boy 3.0, I'll be driving the funk into him early on. We already get our groove on in the morning. You should see him dance! It's hilarious.

Hey. About your guitar. I like what's going on there - but - the direct tone is harsh and weak at the same time. What kind of effects do you have? Can you run the guitar through anything to soften the blow? Another option is to roll the treble back on it to warm it up some. I used to record my guitar through an Alesis Midiverb just to help phatten it a bit.

Usually I run the guitar into the cheap little portable amp and the amp into the 4 track recorder with no effects. Anytime I use effects I have to play and sample a loop through my keyboard for wah, flanger effects. etc. I'm still learning what to do with these instruments, Beau so believe me anything you share is appreciated.

You can do a lot by just miking the portable amp... specially for the funk. if it's a teensy amp - 8-inch speaker, then you're set... all you're trying to do is put a lil' air up in that thing.

Thanks man. You know I appreciate it. I'll be ready for your next song. I'll probably be pissed for the rest of my life that I didn't come up with Sweet Erotica.

Thanks Izaiah. Uh-oh I'm starting to lose steam with you, huh? That's three duds in a row that you didn't care for. evillol But hey I appreciate your honesty. I can tell that I've gotten away from funk recently, but I can't stay away too long. horns

I'm not saying anything but "Shoo-Be-Dooo" or something like that. evillol I just don't think I have anything good enough ready for project 2. We'll see, but this time I'd like to record lyrics.

Sorry for being late coming to this party. dunce

B-side has a real nice baseline. Dig it. Classic changes in between the verses... but ooohh what's that at the end? You gotta expand on that. It kinda reminds me of a dream factory outtake.

thumbs up!

mr.green Couldn't resist. It sounds good though! I thought it might be manually playing a drum machine. Great job on that, the open hi-hats work real nice in the changes.

Those are horn samples from the George Clinton 'Sample Some of Disc, Sample Some of D.A.T. series.' Everything else is me mr.green If I can get clever and come up with lyrics I might submit that one for NFO project 2. I kinda hate to because I used some of the same chords from Untitled/Tribute to Stevie. Maybe the songs sound different enough so nobody cares that I recycled. shrug
