Haven't checked out your songs for some time, sorry man! I think you're right about autonomous man (the harmonies!)...I don't know if it's because your main voice is out of key, or whether its the synth effect that makes it strange. Hard to say, and I'm not technically minded enough to give a professional diagnosis sorry!
I love your ideas with the chorus effect guitar and delayed solo fills.

Now Get Complicated...MAN! I LOOOVE THIS!!! Great mix of vocals, and rythm! It might be cool to have the drums very a bit, funk it up a bit more?

"Get ..." sounds very Aerosmith meets "Jem"."Auto..." sounds like Dream Academy in flavor with all of the textures. How are u getting the clarity in your recordings? I like the indian influence guitar in my right ear on that track. Keep up the good work. It's good 2 see somebody getting some work done.

Autonomous Man is really beautiful. Love the effects on the guitar and keyboards. I agree with Tal, LOVE the guitar on the right. I don't think the harmonies are off really, it's just a eastern influence. It has a dissonance that works, and it reminds me of some Purple Rain score music. I can TOTALLY hear some Wendy&Lisa background vocals on this...

I continually listen to my stuff, (and yours - it sounds like it's on par with my stuff - guitar/drum/bass/vocals - rock-driven-funk) and I ask myself, "okay, I've got this killer song, recorded. All the parts are there. Why does this sound like a demo, and a real song sounds like a real song?"

A LOT of times, I think it's two things: The EQ and the performance. Take this song.

The drums are SUPER bright. In fact, everything is super bright. That's the way the Zoom is set up. Lately, I'm turning the high eq down on almost every track, trying to "muddy" it up a little bit.

Second - the performance. The riff-guitars - if you're up to it, try going back and tightening up the HELL out of those guitars - down to muting the strings between riffs, instead of just letting it ring.

Ditto with the bass - it's groovy in some spots, but I wonder if you tightened it up in other areas, would that snap the song into shape?

The lead guitar - it tends to ramble a little too much all over everything, and is SUPER tinny - which could be cool if you exported the entire track (via takewave) reversed the WHOLE DAMN THING, then imported it back into the Zoom. Viola: Reverse guitar solo to "whaaa" it all up.

(yes I know I wrote Viola)

Lastly - double up the screamer vocals - SUPER TIGHT - do a phrase at a time, so you nail it exactly. Your voice on those parts sounds EXACTLY like Def Lepperd boy, so, if you doubled the vocals, you'd be right on the money.

As usual, it's all my personal opines on this, and it's up to you. I'm super bummed that I haven't recorded a single song in over 5 months - too much shit to do between keeping the missus happy, the boy happy, the OTHER boy happy, and playing live.

But hey, I set a goal to put together my damn solo CD - at least a coherent demo to give to some heads around here for feedback. If they like it, then I'll pursue the real thing. Otherwise, I'll just resolve to being a critic.

Like the other song, but gotta get milk for the boy, so, there's the priorities...

You sound like a busy guy! Awww, who needs music anyway? Lol! Yeah, I have no idea how to EQ shit at all (in case you haven't noticed). I have no idea why I get this certain buzz, etc. on some songs. I just pick one of those "mastering" settings and play with the knobs. As for getting everything super-tight - I usually never bother (as I'm sure you've noticed, also) because I know that this is kind of just a demo. I wouldn't put this on a CD and try to sell it to someone...yet. I just have the same drum beats going over and over again because I'm too lazy to program the whole song. I just figure that eventually I'll go into a studio with some kick-ass musicians and everything will totally rock. Wishful thinking, huh? I wish someone would show me how to improve with the whole mixing/mastering thing. Thanks for your feedback - you always offer good ideas and, since we use the same recorder, you know what I'm dealing with here. Congrats on the new addition! Name him/her Prince Beau II.
