Congrats, Cherrie. You have many options. You can get a videotape or book on guitar basics that will show you simple chords and progressions. Or, if you have musician friends, ask them to give you some pointers. I just got my first guitar a year and a half ago, and I was able to sit down with a friend who is a really talented guitar player and have him show me a few things. That worked great for me. Now we're in a band together. headbang

Congratulations! An excellent choice for a beginner, too. I've owned mine for 21 years now and I still like to strum it now and then (OUCH! AM I REALLY THAT OLD?) Anyway, check the site in my signature for some info on playing funky guitar...

Cool! You know, you can own all the most expensive guitars in the world but NOTHING means more or brings back more memories than your first guitar. I look back on my first guitar with dewey-eyed affection!

...and a Spanish acoustic too. Just can't be beat.

I kinda agree with you man, my first guitar was the cheapest thing ever (Aria), bought from Argos, a cheapo catalogue store. Thing is, I knew nothing better, and luckily I REALLY wanted to learn to play (it weren't a fad), so that s.o.a.b got me threw the basics. Now I've played lots of different types, and have a Les Paul, so I can honestly say, with hand on heart, that my first guitar was a PIECE OF SHIT, and I find it painful just to think of playing the thing again!

I actually gave it to my brother once, but it lay in his room for one year gathering dust - the only reason he wanted it was to look cool with the chicks! lol

It's great you have a traditional guitar to start with definitely. Enjoy! Oh, advice? get transcriptions to your favourite songs, and learn them! guitar

Sweet. If you've got the love, you'll find out pretty fast.
If you get discouraged, don't stop. Hang in there, and once you start learning some tunes, you'll be happier than you are now. Welcome to the Dawn, Cherrie!! guitar

Try not to limit yourself to just books and videos. Really try to find someone to help U.

U will hear a lot of people saying, "ooo i was self taught, yadda yadda yadda."
You should start off on a good track and not take the risk on teaching yourself the wrong way to do something.

Self taught doesn't mean anything.

Congratulations, Cherrie! woot! I've been playing for about a year now and you'll be surprised how quickly it comes to you. guitar My first guitar was an Aria electric, I've since purchased an acoustic as well. A good teacher is really important, too.

haven't played one of though cloud guitars, but for someone like u, u should always play a guitar before getting one. Unless its for show smile

For the money, i would get something else.
But i wouldn't mind getting it someday.

for $1500 I got a Jem guitar baby, man its sweet. I don't even like Ibanez but this guitar does it all.
