Recently I ran to the pawn shop and bought a bass and a guitar because I need to develop some skill...I still haven't replaced the strings. The latest stuff I recorded sounds like a 6 year old playing for the very first time. I just came to the conclusion that I am very lazy.

Well, I already knew that, but my tracks are beginning to sound lazy and thrown together. Most of you have been really prolific lately and frankly I'm getting a little jealous biggrin

I've been advised many times not to stop using analog 4 track recording devices, but I think that's part of my problem. My latest tracks are mixed horribly and I'm ready to expand. So, because the search function isn't working and I don't remember the last person to ask this question... What is one of the best and most inexpensive digital recorders?

For those who use drum machines which ones do you use?

I'm planning to buy before the end of the month. Give me some suggestions to look into.

wish i can help man. my stuff b's computer / playstation / keyboardized.

I'm always giving a major plug to my recorder, the Zoom MRS-1044. It's been discontinued, so they go on EBAY for about $350-$400:
http://search.ebay.com/se...sicSearch=

They've got 10 tracks total, PLUS a built-in drum machine PLUS a built in bass track as well (although I STILL haven't figured out how to program the bass track too well).

For the money, it's a great tool. I'm not 100% pleased with the drumsets, and you can't mix & match the drum sounds, but for the most part, it's a great machine. Everything you've heard by me has been recorded on that machine.

For drum machines, I've been thinking about getting rid of my Zoom 123 and getting an Alesis SR16. I Really like how easy it is to program Alesis drum machines. The Zoom 123 is cheaper ($99 new) but programming it ain't as easy. BUT, if you've never used either drum machine, the programming issue wouldn't be a problem. I learned how to program on the original Alesis HR16 and believe every damn drum machine should be built using Alesis' interface.

SO. To recap, go for the Zoom MRS 1044 - it's got effects out the wazoo, mastering tools built in, 10 tracks total, and with the USB doohickey, you can just drag and drop your songs into your PC instead of having to mix down through a sound card.

lastly, the MRS1044-CD has a built-in CD burner, but, that's another $150, and I already have a burner.

Thanks. I couldn't remember if it was a Zoom or a Boss unit that you used. When recording guitars, do you plug your cable direct to the unit or route it through an amp?

Bounce! haaay! That is the closest I have heard ur sound come in 2 the new millenium! This is tight as usual! IU mixed in just enuff funk with ur bass, and managed 2 throw in the Timbaland hi hat scheme, the guitar work is damn funky, and man it is jus beggin 4 sum lyricizms.

nice 2 c that u have came back 2 check ur post.

Seduction is nice, :I: dont know about the organ in it though. It has a nice jazzy club feel 2 it. The organ just irritates me a lil bit, should be synth, that would mellow it out a lil more.

Man, what is the deal man? U got it goin ON bruh-man!
Doin it, u doin it. And FINALLY i c just a lil clip of what u look like man, finally! lol! Get 2 know what one of my favorite musicans of mine looks like, i wanna know who cd i wanna buy!

Much love, thanks 4 sharing

Soul Ballad #4, Bounce & Seduction and a revamp of Heaven. I am supposed to be in exile right now but I just really had to get Soul Ballad #4 out of head...the melody has been there for a couple of weeks.. I really would appreciate your honest feedback before I decide to scrap these tracks. My wife just told me that SB#4 sounds like a cross between the TV themes Hill St. Blues and The Love Boat...which is not what I was going for.

This stuff is awesome! I really like "Heaven". That has major National Top 40 potential. I would like to put some lyrics to that. Also, I like "Seduction". That sounds like a mix between the Isley Brothers, some Barry, and Prince from the Pepe Willie days. "Bounce" is a cool groove. Once again, I always like your drum sounds and music arrangement. You know your she-it.

Let me know if you want to work on a collab. I have other collabs lined up with other org artists in 04 also.

Your friend,
JD

Hey Psyko!

Wonderful stuff! as usual...

smile

I love your arrangements and the chord changes! Also very clever stuff with the perc's. I never thought to use some of them like that! Although, I wish I could hear some more of your voice...smile

Thanks Jshua. You just don't know how much your stuff has inspired me. Daily, I get pissed because I didn't think of Sweet Erotica. biggrin I've been playing with vocals but now I'm starting to hear the effects of cigarette smoking. My range is not anywhere it used to be. So if I record vocals, they usually remain background.
