Computer help needed!

I'm almost ready to re-format my computer so that from then on I can have it dedicated to recording.

My question isn't music related sorry, and I'm sure is really dumb, but any compskis among you know how I go about saving the internet connection settings (e.g. all the number/login details for connection via my isp) so that I can later import them? I can write down the numbers, but the passwords are 'asterixed' out! If anyone can offer advise I'd really appreciate it!

You could MAYBE save all your cookie files to a disc and then just drag them into the cookies directory when you install the new computer. But that's for passwords and settings that pertain to web sites.

As for internet connection stuff, you're going to have to go find the hard copy of the documentation. When you signed up with your internet service provider, they sent you a letter with all the connection deets. I'm guessing. So on the bright side, you already have all this information written down somewhere. The problem is, WHERE exactly did you put that stuff?

That's all I know.

co-sign.

I have a mac on my desk here. I use it for the screensaver and that's about it. mac users will hate me for saying it. I've used both. Both are equal in power, convenience, shortcomings, etc etc. There is no supreme computer anymore. Now it's just about preference. Do you like pretty plastic? Then get a mac. Do you like a cheap computer? Then get a PC.

Oh did I say that? I'm JUST KIDDING! PUT DOWN THE GOAT!

I'm kidding.

Taureau - did you ever get your computer files located and everythang?

Actually what makes the NEW mac so great is the UNIX background. This way applications are independent and not relient on another application for support.

Wohay! It worked! Yeah Otan I managed to find the details of the account in the end - for some unusual reason I actually SAVED them in a drawer somewhere.

My 'puter seems cured of its bugs (loadsa viruses and config screw ups), and I've managed to shift 25 CD's worth of crap off the hard drive so now I'm all set to turn this beeyatch into a Music Factory.

I'm surprised there isn't a windows function to export the internet connection settings (there is for mail connections). I'd be screwed if I didn't find that hard copy.

As for the Mac banter, I haven't had that much experience with the latest models so I can't really compare. I know that only recently they've stopped that cursor from annoyingly hanging everytime you run something. Seein' as I ended up getting a Vaio I think I would have seriously considered a Mac if I'd known more about them because they seem to be the weapon of choice in music. Sayin' that, 10 years ago they used to be the weapon of choice in biology labs, but now every lab you go to has heaps of really old crappy macs, everyone are slowly replacing them with TFT screen Dell's. Maybe once upon-a-time the software being cheaper to develop on the Mac. I'm just guessing. Hmm, I'm rambling.
