Hello, does any1 know what guitar effect prince was used back in the days like the lovesexy ablum, electric chair, lemon cursh and many more from the ealier days!
Its kind of a distortion! what make? PLEASE tell me if u have the asnwer!

As far as I know, he's always been very prone to Boss petals all around. I know there's an articl somewhere on it. I'll try to find it and write you back!

all the digital stuff is midied together and controlled by an MXC-8
switcher/controller

he goes thru cabinets and amps like packs of chewing gum...
peavy (5150 and vintage)

he's got a huge guitar collection (75-100)...he's got gibsons, taylors,
takamines, guilds, epiphones, fenders, all that...
i can tell you that the old bass sounds are mostly fender jazz
basses...that old tele copy he used to play was a hohner...he liked
fender teles too..

THNAKZ SYLZE...i have this artical..i think the effect im looking 4 is maybe abit more older, if u listen 2 GLAM SLAM intro u can hear the guitar intro GOOD thats the sound! i want! but thanks 4 taking time out!

No problem,

For some reason, the boss metalzone keeps coming to mind for his sound at that particular time. But bear in mind also that his rig is rather...unique, shall we say? and the cloud guitar is wired pretty differently (found that one out from a former tech of his). Somewhere in all of that is that "sound".

I don't have the album here, but a kot of the "signature" distorted sounds from Purple Rain through Lovesexy to my ears seem to have some Boss Octave on them. To me that pedal is instant mid-80's Prince

Thanx y'all! Ehmmm lemme see. The guitar is compressed with a boss compression pedal. I'm not sure if I compressed the mix as well, but I don't think so.
