Company vs. Community

That's it. Nothing more. So please put the torches and pitchforks down.

First and foremost...
A sincere public appology to Mr. Jason M. Dodson for questioning his titles in a public forum. Putting someone on the spot like that is wrong and any disagreement with an individual should have been kept private and civil. That's what the "PM" button and/or a phone is for.

When confronted about those questions, they were denied quite simply because those questions were not ready to be talked about until personal feelings were set aside. Mistake #2. Trust was broken.

Although those questions were edited out and made into private messages as to keep that dissagreement private, several people had already read them thus sparking: "the post heard around the web". That could have been avoided much easier.

There is nothing that can be done then or now to take back those harsh actions. That was very hasteful and one should not be so quick to anger. There is no ill-will toward Mr. Jason Dodson on any personal level whatsoever. SIMPLY a disagreement in Company vs. Community Which in popular opinion can lead to two entirely different and VERY COMPLEX directions going forward. After giving this months of thought and seeking legal advice for the best interests of the community...

Perhaps this might clear things up.

A while back, this community sparked an interest in creating an online marketing tool that would help promote free music projects owned and operated by the artists.

Jason Dodson brought this wonderful idea to the table under the name "New Funk Order". This pretty catchy phrase has turned into quite the household name around here lately primarily because of the most gracious cat in the org: Mr. Ben Margolin. This wonderful idea was embraced and built upon by this community to what it is now.

The New Funk Order is a registered company owned by Jason Dodson. As a company, it is owned and operated by its CEO and President. Everything given to the company is then ultimately owned by the company. This direction has a huge amount of pros and cons.

The communitive effort that has shaped what has been created has been quite a task that everyone should be quite proud of. Although there were fewer key players than participants, it was and still is a community project and should be owned and operated by its community. This direction also has a huge amount of pros and cons.

It is my understanding that any and all work and planning was to help further the community and not a company, that all project submissions, artwork, web work and funding is to support a freedom fighting cause within the music and entertainment industry on a world wide scale. No work has been lost in this "transition". However, a new name may be a factor and the community should factor in any legal mumbo jumbo when deciding that.

Going forward
The foundation of "the house" needs a stronger substance and as a community you should look at the following.

Community ownership: How can an online community be owned and operated by it's group?

Intellectual Property: How do you ensure that it's kept just as you intended it to be?

Leadership: How do you form/elect a committee that ensures that every contribution is looked at and considered for publication online? That all voices are heard and considered and best interests are toward the community? That as a leader, your service to your community and its best interests comes first and foremost. (within the community, we all have day jobs, I know)

By solidifying the above will help things move forward more efficiently and effectively. A good structure is determined by how solid the foundation is.

All you would have had to do is ask, and I would have REMOVED THAT CLAUSE, AND GIVEN THE COMMUNITY EQUAL SHARE IN EVERYTHING. I AM NOT AN EGOTIST. THE ONLY- AND I MEAN ONLY, THING I EVER WANTED CREDIT FOR WAS THE NAME, AND THE FOUNDING. I WOULD HAVE DROPPED THE CEO, ONCE AGAIN, IF YOU HAD TOLD ME WHAT YOUR PROBLEM WAS. I AM NOT A HARD GUY TO WORK WITH, AND I DIDN'T HAVE ANY MEAN INTENTIONS IN INCORPORATING AS A NON-PROFIT- ONLY WANTED TO SOLIDIFY THE COMMUNITY. I WOULD HAVE BEEN OPEN TO YOUR STRUCTURE.

Peace,
JD

I don't have one dishonest bone in my body. I had no idea that the whole thing was owned by me, like music, web, etc...or else, I would have changed the structure. I wanted everyone to be equal, hence the idea that I thought of, where artists owned the rights to their music and we worked as a community.

(looking over some of those posts in the other threads)

Ok, Some .org moderator actions are in order. Adding fuel to the already unnecessary fire will only cause strife between people. There is far more to agree upon than not.

All services to the community by either myself or my affiliates belong to the community to own. Nothing lost, everything to gain.

Moving forward is "just around the corner"
So let's go already.

And just think, all of this could have been avoided, and the New Funk Order would still be a successful endeavor if you would have just been a fucking man and discussed this months ago.

Whoever you are, please just stop with the baiting.

It seems like this can still be worked out, please try NFO & JD. Communication is a must in all relationships and if there is something to be learned from all of this, that's it.

All of this arguing is typical of every band I've ever been in. Wouldn't it be more amazing if we could pick-up the broken pieces and see past differences while still making this positive community work?

If it's a matter of people doing more work to contribute, then post what needs to be done & I'll be there.

Please try guys, I'd hate to see it go away on this note.

Step two.

Examining the foundation.

The common goal and destination of this community is about free music and promotional opprotunity. Everyone has something to bring to the table.

The "Insert name here" has grown into the following:

1.) A politial and social movement
2.) A community
3.) An Album
4.) A marketing tool to compete with "the big boys" for the lesser known artists.
5.) A resource for music lovers (possible through history and music lessons

Is it more or less?

Please refraim from counter productivity and focus on the tasks at hand.

NFO, please give it some time, there's a bad taste in my mind right now.

I'm willing to still be a part of any project, there just needs to be some space between what's happened and what's going to happen.

It isn't more, and it isn't less. That statement is completely true and just is.
