MP3 or WAV Music Editing Software

Here's the story:
Every week I go to a local bar on Friday night to play a music trivia game. In this game the guy plays clips from songs and usually asks for title and artist or some other tidbit of information. He puts his little game on tape every week. I would like to create something similar using my computer to put it on a CD.

Is there any music editing software out there where I can take an existing MP3 File (for this case we will say Michael Jackson's "Thriller") and modify it. I would like to cut "Thriller" down to about a 10 to 15 second clip. I would also like to *bleep* or remove the part of the chorus where Mike says "Thriller" so I do not give the title of the song away.

You guys know any program I could download that could help me edit the music to put it on CD for the game?

Thank you!!!

Cool Edit Pro is my favourite

others are Soundforge and Wavelab, Cakewalk etc...

I prefer CEP myself, I just find it easier to use than the others once you get used to it.

Cool! Thanks!
From what I see, the makers of cool edit pro were bought out by Adobe. Cool Edit Pro is now called Adobe Audition and you can download a free upgrade here:

i wont be upgrading , adobe bought cool edit out a few months back - i saw the upgrade but no way will i get it, the program is perfect as it is,

they can only screw it up.

I hate upgrades, after months or years of using program i finally get used to every part of it, know every function - then they upgrade it and its just fucked it. everything is different and moved around - its hell !

NEVER UPGRADE !
