David Ryan Harris live - free mp3s

David Ryan Harris is an awesome local acoustic musician here in Atlanta. He's got a soulful voice and plays just an acoustic guitar - creating the rhythm patterns using a looping delay. Awesome show.

Check out Pretty Girl for starters - when he cuts into "Most Beautiful Girl in the World".

These songs are already freely available on the web elsewhere, so there's no illegality in providing these songs. Good Thing is my favorite.

Hey Otan,

Isn't this the same guy who used to front a black metal band back in the early 90's? I can't remember their name at the moment but it was taken from a Public Enemy Song (think I still have that CD somewhere...). Anyways, I met that cat when I used to gig down there in hotlanta and he was awesome!

And as a matter of fact, I've been meaning to ask you...

A couple of former bandmates of mine have a group in your area: Ever heard of S.M.O?

peace

Follow For Now - that was his old band.

S.M.O! Wow! I totally remember them. They're the first band I caught doing Erotic City - it was new years eve in Savannah, um, 2000 I think. We had a gig there the next night - the place was insane... I was dancing up on a chair, throwing my panties at the stage.

Sigh. Good times.

Anycrap - yeah - I definitely remember them. Are they from Atlanta? For some reason, I thought they were N.C. or S.C.

It's threads like this that confirms to me that Otan knows that music should be felt as well as heard.

Thanks for this music, I'm feeling it.

Real music being felt by people in a live setting.

IMO-
This is the future of the music industry. This guy is looping a beat off and playing/singing along with it but he's feeling what he's doing. Guess what, the audience has no choice but to feel it too.

As beautiful as it is simple, if I was in the audience I would've bought a cd and made it a point to see him live agian even if it costs me $20

That's pretty much what I do everytime I go see him. He's touring nationally now, living in L.A.

Howie Day does this as well. He plays loops while singing live and playing guitar. He records and builds the rhythm loops by taping and slaping on the guitar. He does it live, so you watch him build the backing track and then he sings over it. He even rocords some of his vocals and sings with himself. It's really amazing. He opened for Tori Amos.

His website is http://www.howieday.com/ and he has a nice message board on it with a musicians forum and a new artist forum to promote yourself. The impressive thing about him is that he sold 30,000 cds on his own, just through word of mouth and touring.

I don't have Real Player here at work, but it looks like you can maybe see him live here:

I really loved his live show. It was amazing. I guess people trade bootlegs of his shows online. I'm gonna have to get the show I saw when he opened for Tori. It was really great.

Sorry to jack this thread. boxed But this is cool, I forgot about his message board, so now we can go over there and promote ourselves and the NFO.

Whenever I go see David Ryan Harris live, I always call out one of FFN's early singalongs: "You'd Get More Play if You Had A Bigger D*ck" - catches him off guard - all these folks yelling out his more mature, sensitive songs, and I'm busting him on a trashy singalong!

A friend of mine who was a drummer with I-ROCK turned me on 2 these guys. I knew he was good , but this stuff really shows his virtuosity. Thanks dude.David reminds me of a cool azz Neil Diamond if u can dig that.

I've been braggin' about this cat ever since I discovered his solo CD. I'd toss out my entire Prince collection(post 1993) to keep this record. Its TRULY a GREAT CD. Otan, you're lucky. Thanks for the heads up and the links. I hope the show is fantastic.
