Funky soul, R&B, Gospel, Hip-hop, Alternative,...

Greetings all Org Musicians...I am Adisa. fro

I'm a musician, singer, songwriter, and producer who moonlights as a student in graduate school... lol First I wanna give mad props to all in the NFO! I haven't heard all the tunes yet but I'm feelin' what I've heard so far. I recorded an R&B/pop lp a few years back, and I'm about to start work on some gospel/ contemporary Christian tunes in the upcoming months. woot! Really excited about going back in the studio after about a three year hiatus and working with a new engineer who will also help with co-production and songwriting. This will be the first time I had creative input with someone since my band broke up in 1994.

Anyway, I'm sitting here working on arrangements at home. When I'm about to lay down instuments I listen to ,like, EVERYTHING in my music collection which is compiled of every genre from new age/ambient to hip-hop. I'm sitting here right now and I've played songs by Prince, Zapp/Roger, Shirley Caesar, John Cougar Mellencamp, Outkast, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kirk Franklin, and then some more Roger headbang

That said, my question is this...how do you prepare/inspire yourself before you go to the lab...Ooops! The Roger CD has stopped. Gotta throw in the Victor Wooten guitar
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I tend to feel my way through the recording/ creating/ arranging process. If I get stuck, I will listen to a song that has the vibe I'm trying to go for. Sometimes I'm working on editing a song sooo much, I have to listen to something else to clear my mind, because the baseline keeps echoing in my head.

I have learned that I can't wait for inspiration to hit, or try to inspire myself to create or edit. I just have to go in there as much as possible and pull up a song that needs to be finished. They're all waiting to be completed, lol.

Cool another Roger & Zapp fan!!!. Have u heard 'No Compromise' by Rufus Troutman III?, thats Roger's nephew (I think) and the music is really cool and he uses a talkbox and does gospel music. I have only heard samples of it (can't find it in the UK sad ) but its great smile

I know this is off-topic but do u have 'The Saga Continues' by Roger on CD?. I have it on cassette but have never found it on CD.

As 4 ur music...make it funky like Roger & Zapp with the talkbox!!! & I'll listen 2 it!!!

I just got Rufus Troutman's "No Compromise" last week for Christmas, and I REALLY like it! This is Roger and Zapp all the way, with a message of Christ in it. I recommend it to any Zapp fan. I am also diggin' Tonex's 2 releases, "Pronounced Toe-nay" and "o2".
