Vocoder Experiment: BOODY

So, I discovered that I DO have a vocoder on an effects unit I've had for 10 years, and never messed with it.

This is my second fiddling with it, just to illustrate the diff between this and the talkbox doodad. I really like the lower notes, and the higher chorded stuff. Break out the low riders.

No - it's not the Talkbox - it's the vocoder. The talkbox has the tube that comes out and goes into your mouth, and you make noise into the microphone. The Vocoder has two inputs - one for the instrument, one for the vocal mic, and somehow it blends them. I got no idea how.

I used it tonight at a gig, and I tell you, the hardest part (and i KNOW you gonna find this hard to believe, coming from ME) is that I couldn't think of things to say into the vocoder, so, mostly, I was just kinda scatting into the doodad... and saying "too funkay! too funkay!"

Oh. I was my biggest fan.

The unit is a Boss SE-50, made in the late 80's, maybe even 1990. They're on ebay for $50. I got mine back in the day tho, back when 16-bit digital sound was something to revel in.

Thanks for the compliment Timefan. I'm working on some new material, but it's coming slow, between being a sideman, a dad, a designer, lessee, what else, a knowitall, and a smartass. Ain't got TIME for songwriting!!

Paisley - ALL my songs use drum programming - I'm just old school home-studio, where the goal is to make the drums sound real. They're all drum machines, except maybe one song. Drum sounds are from the Zoom recorder I have.
