A review of me and the NFO to be posted in local newspapers! This is a review that a friend of mine in the media is releasing here in a few days. It reads the following:
The Resurrection of Funk Funk music seemed to have died in the mid to late 1980's. The onset of synthesized pop music and watered down soul music, along with the empty and dark lyrics of many songs, caused funk to retreat and decrease, and the "groove-ment" withered away. Prince, George Clinton, and Digital Underground had hits with some funky songs, but not until the late 1990's were there any musicians that really brought back the groove with the message of revolution laced within it. Enter Jason Dodson. Jason is a Columbus, Ohio native who relocated to Southern Illinois in 2000. His plan was to bring about a new music revolution of love and freedom, based on Prince's "new funk" genre of music that evolved from the funky sounds of the 70's and 80's. On his many full length independent releases, Jason has a groove that is unique. He blends musical loops with eloquent arrangements and positive lyrical messages. In 2001, Jason released his first CD, titled "The New Egypt Crusade". Since then, Jason has molded the New Egypt Crusade into a musical movement, and has now become a part of his company and Christian Ministry. However, don't let the term "Christian" get to you, because Jason's music is far from the melodramatic sounds and messages of typical spiritual music. He has brought a true message of love and change in his music without condemnation. In 2003, Jason pioneered a free music project called "The New Funk Order" (www.newfunkorder.com) where all artists, regardless of music genre, can share and download music free of charge. This new music revolution's goal is to bring all artists into the organization, so that everyone can still download music for free, while also promoting their music by submitting free songs within the NFO projects. Music would be in the hands of the artists, and internet music could still be free. As Jason has said, "this is the dawning of a New Funk Revolution". Funk is back from the dead. --Robert Sanchez, Illinois One Multimedia, Inc. C*2003, The Southern Illinoisan | |
