JD,

I know you always rag on yourself because of your equipment (or lack of) but stop comparing yourself.

These tunes are awesome. Period. Well written, beautiful melodies and most importantly, FUNKY!

While the sound could be a little better it just doesn't matter. These ideas and the funk associated with them is clear as day.

Love your stuff, much respect.

Its funny that Slave should say that, because when I listened to Pose last night, I was just thinking "Wow, I'm amazed at how prolific Jason is. So much creativity."

I mean, HOW do all these ideas come to you? I know, they just come, but most of us are not that lucky.

I'm listening through just one ear piece because the other has knackered, and to add insult to injury, I've got a double ear infection due to a flu, which means I'm something like 50% deaf in one ear, 10% in the other. It took me five minutes to realise that the other earpiece wasn't broken because I was trying to listen using my deafest ear. Anyway. Despite my blues, I came to the conclusion that both your tunes would shake a deaf man's booty, especially Pose. The guys are right, you got an alarmingly unnatural knack for funky vocal gymnastics (kinda reminds me of the direction Jem was trying to head for in some of his songs...where is that kid???).

Wow. I am speechless. Thank you all for all of your kind comments. I will be a little more confident in my approach now. One of these days I will have the technical studio sound to go with the creativity, arrangement, and writing. You are all great, and we are here to support one another and learn new artistic ideas from each other.

Jason

Hey hey now - if you recorded these jams last year, why did you hold out on releasing them? Were they in your vault?

lol Well, kind of. I have what I call a "surplus". Whenever I have a period of time where I get any creative block, I can go into the surplus and bring out songs that I had recorded before. I have a lot of songs in surplus. I still haven't put the "Thessalonica" CD together. All the songs are done, I just haven't had the time or energy to arrange the CD and burn it onto a master disc. I will probably do that this weekend, because I have to start making new stuff. I haven't really done much except write in the last few weeks. But, that means mo' material fo the next CD!

Peace,
JD

Actually, I have this big honkin' folder with a bunch of little notes in it (some written on napkins and corners of newspapers) that have ideas and music reminders on them, some from years ago. This is where I get most of my ideas from. If I am sitting in the middle of a meeting, sometimes I will hum a song in my head and then write it on my hand or anything I can write on. The lesson to everyone: always carry a pen whether you have paper or not! smile

biggrin No doubt. Have a notebook too! In high school I used to have a tape player in my car. Sometimes I would record at the end of tapes if I had an idea I didn't want to forget. It's funny to think about that now, because later on if I was listening to that tape with someone else and it got to the end and all of a sudden it's me singing in the car... Kinda embarassing.

Anywho, yes, paper, pen, portable tape recorded and if you can (or have to) call your house and leave a message on the machine.

hmmm I have a big honkin folder that I NEVER go through.

I just listened to tUnite and Pose. Awesome! I got the same feeling I had when I heard The Time's debut LP in 1981. You not only captured that raw, breezy funk but you have brought it into the new millenium. Props.
