The NFO Guy Appreciation thread

Hey all at NFO,

Wanna say a huge thankyou to Mr NFO for his awesome input into the project. In the last few months, the project has surpassed all our wildest dreams & thats mainly down to the mysterious NFO guy! Even when the project is costing him loadsa money, hes still there keeping the (now absolutely awesome) website up & running.

But you cant blame a brother for being curious wink, do you think we'll ever find out who he is??

God bless

Lewis

NFO/newfunk, the man behind the website and funding for the NewFunkOrder:

He is truly an angel. Without him, we wouldn't be where we are, AND with the possibilities of going sooo much further. I hope someday we can repay him. Push those t-shirt sales, guys!

Thank you! I know I get a bit anxious and hyper sometimes, and I thank you for being patient with me.

Where did you find that old picture? I've had a good shave and a bath since then. It really looks nothing like me now.

Thanks for the props! That's mighty cool of you.

Listen, and I'll give you a bit of underground history. Way back when the idea was first introduced to this community by JD, Yamomma brought it to my attention. We both thought it was a good idea. After a while, I started checking on the status of this great little idea myself and started to notice a little progress. I really wanted to give my advice from both a creative and marketing point of view to help push it along but at the same time not commit to this because it really isn't mine to mess with. I'm not that crazy about Prince, so coming to this site felt a little wierd to begin with. But the NFO thing was pretty cool! Yamomma schooled me on the business and political side of Prince, the reason for the name change, his music club, etc. and I had a better understanding of things around here.

Yamomma got hooked on it, and we do this sort of stuff for a living and work together off and on so the NFO became a part of our conversation. Not long after that, I really wanted to post some ideas, but remain kinda "3rd party". I'm a huge advocate of the art community on lots of levels so this was fun and enlightening. After Yamomma spent weeks putting the songs together and started to arrange the album and began working on the artwork, I felt compelled to help out too. So how would I get your attention in this project and still remain kinda "3rd party"? I registered "newfunkorder" and "NFO" screen names for prince.org. I figured you guys might take notice of what that person had to say. I think it worked pretty good at the time.

One night, Yamomma and I were having a few beers and jaming at Frank's studio and we were reading the latest development. We both felt that it was falling apart and noticed people were becoming disinterested and arguing with each other instead of coming to solutions and agreements. We also read the threads/announcements from people saying "I QUIT" and "PLEASE REMOVE MY SONG". We read talk of a website, but didn't see anything in a few weeks. Yamomma felt compelled to act fast to save our "entertainment" (at the time) from going under, so he registered the domain name out of his own pocket. In turn, I gave him some hosting space. I owe him a ton of favors so it was no big deal for me. We over looked Lewis's initial plans for the website and felt compelled to keep moving forward because we had already started a lot of the ground work. (sorry Lewis, we REALLY never meant to step over you. Just got caught up in the hype)

Yamomma started working on some graphics and began some really good work, but got bogged down by a lot of REAL work. (the paying kind) I had some stuff up my sleave but was in the same boat. So we got together online late at night and did some dabbling in the wee hours of the morning. When Yamomma got behind in his work, (jobs we were working on together) I felt compelled to help and hurry him up so we could get paid for the jobs we were supposed to be doing.

After almost a year of meeting and speaking to several of you either online or on the phone has been a great joy! Yamomma and I do a lot of work with stuffy corporate clients all day long when we're really just hippies ourselves. Well I guess I am anyway. No matter how tedious it gets at times, we're having a lot of fun. Getting to know many of you and watching this project GROW has truly been a blessing. Not to mention watching a lot of your talent develop as well. Listening to new jams from people like Salles, Tim Dye, JD, Vina, Beau, Jew and all the new people coming to the table, watching you guys grow as well is an awesome treat too.

As far as I see it, The NFO is like this big 'ol round table that just grows and the seating multiplies. Like the "King Author" round table. There are no heads. Everyone brings and has equal share and opportunity to the table. This is a COMMUNITY and NOT a business. With such an abundance of talent and ideas, together WE ALL can do some pretty funky shiz, right? So really, THANK YOU everybody at http://newfunkorder.com , YOU GUYS ROCK! It's the collabortive effort that inspires us all to help move this wonderful idea forward.

I took on my role because there HAS to be an impartial eye/ear/moderator type person pushing the buttons. That became evident in the very beginning. Speaking of which, there should be more people doing that. Like a committee. Any volunteers? To thank me, you'd have to thank yamomma for his drive and non-stop babble about the NFO, sometimes I work extra on this to shut him up. It's deffinately a worthy and nobel cause that every artist should fight for.

Tim.

I was miffed to say the least that you hadnt got in touch and asked me so I didnt do any design work for NFO that wasnt needed (did a few pages when I could have been working on paying customer sites). But my friend you know its cool now, Cloud9 Mission is a quest for the eutopia, it doesnt bear grudges wink especially not grudges as petty as this one. In fact the way my own site has taken off recently & various other projects, Im glad you did step in cos I certainly wouldnt have the time now. Cloud9 Mission does at least 55gb of transfere a month since september 2003 omfg & it takes some doing to keep it running like that. You've done a better job than I would have done & have taken the project to higher ground than I could have done. From now on, you have my undivided support in all things NFO & otherwise wink.

Interesting to see the history if how it all came about too biggrin. So now we know roughly who you are, can we start calling you by name now & lose all the mystery?? wink

I took on my role because there HAS to be an impartial eye/ear/moderator type person pushing the buttons.

That is a good point mate, it keeps us with our musical egos, large or small, in check smile

God bless Tim
