Crazy stories or worst musical experience(s)?

This stems from the other thread about how you started out musically. It reminded me of the crazy gigs and things I've done in the past. One of the strangest kind of happened to me but actually more for my dad. I was about 5 years old when this happened.

One night he was DJing at this bar by our house. (Which he did every weekend) Not even a 2 minute drive away. Err... in the "ghetto" I guess you could say. I didn't grow up in a nice place. hehe Not much was happening and the bar was slow that night. He saw some "regulars" and a guy in a wheelchair. The guy in the wheelchair made a request... my dad played it. after about 5 minutes the manager of the bar told my dad he can go home for the night since it was so slow.

My dad packs up his stuff, says by to all the regulars and staff. He sees the guy in the wheelchair outside in the middle of the parking lot just sitting there with a bottle of beer in a paper bag. My dad said goodnight to him and the guy just waved. My dad got home and about 10 minutes after he got home around 11 something pm we get a phone call. It turns out the guy in the wheelchair went back into the bar after my dad left. Took out a gun which was in the paper bag and shot everybody in the bar before shooting himself. Nobody else died but several people were wounded. One bartender got shot in the shoulder and in the chest, very close to her heart. She almost passed away.

It was strange because I knew these people and like I said I was 5 or so at the time. All I know is it really made me worry about my dad and I wanted him to quit DJing. hehe From then on he took a gun when he went to go DJ and stopped the bar scene for awhile. Also, we haven't DJed any "house parties" really since except for people we personally know. K... that's just one of many crazy stories I have. Who is next? :+)

Dude, I simply don't think anyone can top your story. I found it very disturbing. I'm at work right now, and feel like watching my back when I leave lurking

Yikes Boots...scary story. Lemme see if I can lighten this topic up a notch.

My craziest Rolling Stones gig (not really a gig, didn’t get paid but it was interesting).

Concert Productions calls one afternoon. “U busy tonight?” “Maybe” I said. “Last minute favor, Keith needs a seeing eye dog”. “Beg your pardon?”

Y’all recall Keith’s heroin bust in Toronto. Well the story goes that a blind woman from Montreal would hop the bus to Toronto every weekend for 3 weeks to come to Keith’s aid and convince the judge in giving him a lighter sentence. She eventually shows up at the judges residence. He invites her in and the outcome is that Keith’s penalty will be... a performance for the blind.

Since then, Keith’s gratitude to this woman has been to offer her free transportation, hotel and tickets to any Stones gigs in Montreal or Toronto.

So back to the phone call and the fact that Keith needs a seeing eye dog. He needs someone to escort this woman and follow him around all night; paint pictures with words, describing the atmosphere, ambiance, the events of the evening. I think this is kind of interesting and I accept to meet the woman, take her backstage and to the show. We get graciously picked and taken to the venue where we are escorted backstage into an incredible Voodoo Lounge where the spread is pure butta - complete with a wall of fine hot cuisine, a wall of desserts, a huge bar stretching another wall, an olympic size billiards table and of course...the boys. There was Mick in the corner, suspiciously eyeing our presence (the Lord that he thinks he is), Ron Wood immediately made a move on me until he was quickly dragged, litereally dragged away by his wife. Charlie, in his beautiful black and white spats continuously tap danced/soft shoed for us and was just one of the lovliest men I have ever met. Keith and Ron smoked cigarettes, were playful and shot a couple mean games of pool, even allowing me to light his cigarette for him. Throughout the course of the evening various peeps, stars, friends, photographers stopped by - and their I sat explaining to this woman just what was going on.

About 5 minutes before the show, management comes in and yells “everyone out, except U and U” he points, which meant the blind woman and I were staying. Here the 6 of us were...Mick, Keith, Charlie, Ron, the blind woman and myself. Quiet, very quiet. Only me whispering to her what was taking place, Charlie doin’ his tap tap tap warm up and Keith and Ron sharing laughter and getting very excited. You could hear the stadium screaming. Gawd it was exciting.

Showtime! The woman and I are led to a private section, stage right where Ron’s wife, Jerri and the kids sit. This is great! Half way thru the show, as Jagger’s kids are crawlin’ all over me - the blind woman says she wants to get closer so that Keith can see her. So I gladly comply, dump the kids and head for the stage. Hell yah...and Keith to my surprise comes right over to us and gives one nasty private performance, one I won’t forget. Too bad she couldn’t see it, but I certainly enjoyed it. I couldn’t describe it to her ... who could hear...and dayum...I loved Keith.

Now here’s where I nearly Funked up bigX. We had been told that before the encore we should make our way back to the Voodoo Lounge. So as I have a copy of the play list and I know the encore is coming - I started making my way backstage... WITHOUT THE BLIND WOMAN!!! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT HER. Brain Fart! I finally kick in, Frantic, I make my way thru the crowd that is going crazy and demanding the encore. The lights are down and I CAN'T FIND HER! But I did and she hadn’t even realized that I missed a beat. Had I lost her, it could have been a very very bad and embarassing situation. How the hell would I have explained that to Keith.

Well the night carried on. Good time had by all. Met some interesting peeps and well...that’s one of my Stones stories. Have others...but as they say, I’d never eat lunch in this town again.

Slave2daGroove

Sorry, all way to lame and I was way to young.

A lot of fist fights, covering Slayer in ghetto bars and on too many drugs. Pissed off and the world was going to hear it.

More importantly...

Who the hell is going to top Red's Keith Richards story?

Very cool story Red! :+) Maybe I shouldn't have started this thread off with such an "intense" story. I guess I didnt' mind typing that night. hehe That happens from time to time. Some nights I only feel like a 1 sentence reply, other nights I could write a novel. :+P Anyway, at least you didn't lose the blind woman. :+)

I dunno why but it reminds me of one time when I worked at a record label. It has nothing to do with blind people or anything either. To make a long story short... most of the people I met in L.A. when I worked at a couple labels were ...errr "interesting". One day I saw 2 ladies argue about one of them not showing up to lunch and how they never wanted to speak to eat other again. What made it VERY funny to me though was the fact that these 2 were SOOO DRAMATIC about it. I could have swore it was a some type of soap opera with bad acting. :+) Anyway... take care everybody! :+)
