? Could somebody please explain to me what the musical term 'Chops' stands for? I hear it mentioned alot when people discuss jazz.

Thanks awhile ago i use to hear it just concerning how fast one can play. But the more i've been in music i have heard it expand to being, not just fast, but technical one is, those two combined. ie: Do u have the chops to play that song means: Do u have the talent (technique-ability) to play that song. Something like that. Its pretty much slang for, "Balls" | |

In classic jazz, technique is very important, and technique comes with experience (practice, skill, knowledge of jazz, etc) and is often a "gift" as well. I think this is what they mean. | |
