New Track: Revolution Tentatively titled "Funk Jam # 4" but will eventually become " Want U " Name that sample
Just added 'Revolution'. Just a working version for now but I will definitely come back to it. Any suggestions are welcome. [This message was edited Sat Nov 22 21:44:09 PST 2003 by psykosoul]

I'm continually impressed by Psyko's music. I don't know why.
Two things - the sound quality is lower than what I'd REALLY want to hear - it's mono and is it at a low-bitrate or something? The sound quality just sounds like cassette to computer translation - I forget - what kind of studio do you have? Even with the limited studio sound, the music is always something interesting and JAMMING. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I manually record the 4 track to compact disc and do MP3, WAV from there. I think the sound quality is as a result of the vocal percussion (which is barely audible). I use a cheap microphone and by the time I overdubbed X many times and placed music on top along with that D'Angelo vocal sample it made the song sound like it was recorded in the bathroom. So at this point I think I'm ready for digital recording. [This message was edited Mon Nov 17 13:20:57 PST 2003 by psykosoul]

Have soundclick always done that M3U mp3 streaming business? I can't remember...maybe they nicked Cloud9's idea! Anyway, this is all cool for my modem!
Cool track! I love the bass, and the subtleties of some of the sounds...definitely suits the style of sample. Can't remember what D'Angelo track it is from though...off of Voodoo? ..... BULLSEYE!

I USED to use a 1/8 inch cable, and then wised up and got me the RCA cable (red and black plugs) and a converter, so you can run it out of the RCA outs of your 4-track instead of out from your headphones jack. The sound was DRASTICALLY better. I NEVER knew that plugging in a damn cable would be so frickin involved. Oh- btw - I'd tell you to NOT go digital. Your sound is great, and a digital recorder REALLY changes the way to approach a song, (in my opinion). I'm thinking about going back to analog for a few songs, just to see if I'm tripping. Usually not a fan of sampling but this is great.
I'm not sure what Otans referring to about your sound but the mix sounds pretty good to me. Maybe overall a little "muffled" but the lows sound great.

I run RCAs from the 4-track to the CD burner (unit), then take the cd and upload everything to my computer. Isn't that AAD recording?

No - It's Analog - Digital - Digital - ADD Recording. Also, ADD recording is when you start to record a song about one thing, and then get distracted and go online to read about something else, and then write lyrics about a third thing, and then you play violins on the song because you remember a movie from 3rd grade with violins, they're cool. What was the question? [This message was edited Mon Nov 17 18:51:59 PST 2003 by otan] The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I checked out your newest stuff, and I like it! I really like the song that you titled "Royal S**t", but I don't think that it's s**t at all, I am very fond of that song! I like your newest funk jams on there also.
Peace, JD | |
