amp question Just got an old Ampeg - a VT-10, or GT-10, I dunno which. The speaker was shot - literally - there were 4 holes in it. Had to replace it.
And now, the volume is still iffy at best. It's solid-state from the 70's. Any suggestions what I should go in and fiddle with now? Transformers? Voltrons? The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I see nobody has any answers for you my friend.
Immediate thoughts are just check the obvious. That's where my problems always seem to be after I've mind-fucked the details. Connections with all wires to and from the speaker. Getting another speaker just to make sure the new one isn't bad. With tubes (I don't know Ampeg well enough other than it's the only amp to play bass thru) it's a sketchy process at best. Finding replacements and trying each one with checking the connections (in the tube and in the head). If that all fails, go online and find the Ampeg Worshippers. I'm sure you've thought of that. Finally if nothing, give it a name; firewood.

How much use did it get before you bought it. If it was used a lot, it is possible that the transistors need replacing.

no clue. It was definitely rode hard and put up wet. (southern term regarding horses - rode it hard, and put it up without drying the sweat off a horse can mess them up. but y'all KNEW that, didn't you) The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3
