I'm at a loss of understanding, then that voice after about 2 minutes just freaks me out.
Also maybe a glossary or thesaurus explaination of a few words. Clone Funk Mr. Moneyman Creating Life Enslaved Funk Then that big ending really helping the credability Cocksmokin, modern day slave-owning, bitch, motherfucker

I'm with Slave on the cocksmokin line. Totally unecessary. Did Jason approve this? It's too long and too weird and I feel it will turn more people away than pull them in. Prince can get away with weird shit like this, but us? I dunno...

I would say, don't overthink it too far. The NFO is very grounded between P-Funk and Prince. So, the cocksmokin line, along with all the shroomery talk is a part of that world. At first I was put off by it, but, it takes big balls to make that kind of jump. If you go second-guessing the direction now, it'll end up just half-assedly trying to be hepcat, instead of stone-ground-funk.

My review...
I'm with Otan in that you should nurture the freakiness. From the perspective of a professional funk consumer at least, I'm digging the philosophy - artistic actually, and maybe a glossary would remove some of the mystery that makes things like the liner notes of some of the greatest funk albums () so cool. The cocksmoking jibe does seem a bit outta context though...to have a diss' like that spring right outta nowhere, and ESPECIALLY considering the mono'ton(e)'ous/emotionally lacking voice, kinda puts a dampner on the underlying maturity of the whole speach. Get rid of it, and just leave the "u know it's true", with the 'true' echoing of into the distance, for instance, I dunno. Just no cocks. Also I love the NFO music mix you incorporated. They do stop too harshly in places though. Maybe use a sample of a record scratch or an explosion, or a burp..nah that's too george-like. The voice kinda works. Personally I reckon the BEST voice would be a female voice, kinda like the intro to whatever lord of the rings film it was...a sexy female voice (maybe put through some echo chamber and other effects) that spoke those lines with dead sincerity (maybe in the style of 'an elf-woman explaining to a juvenile hobbit for the first time that his parents had just be devoured by orcs'. damn, I'm sad.) would be totally cool in my books, or at least worth a try! Either ways I totally dig the message! ..... BULLSEYE!

I think they are removing the diss anyway, but another thing about that. It is kinda weird to end on that note and because of the monotone we are not really sure if that comment is directed at the listener or Mr.Moneyman. I also dig your suggestion of record scatches... No burps. Radio static would be cool, like switching stations. I do feel that we should have a straightforward explanation of why we are doing what we are doing, then have this as an aside to click on for fun. Maybe call it a translation or something. I know... when one of us has time to work on the straightforward mission statement it will get done. (I've had an essay-type thing in mind for a while. Not too long, just a little more in depth than the mission statement that JD came up with.)

Thanks Taureau.
That's exactly the vibe I'm looking tward with this. Except I was thinking more of a "Matrix" kind-of story telling. All of this is on a radio show I'm working on. It's way more spread out than this version. The last line is a joke. (sort of) A stab at the music industry and is not included in the version I'm working on. I wrote this one night on my laptop up in the mountains by campfire. The last line I put in there after watching "An Evening With Kevin Smith". If that helps. AHHH! I HATE IT when people try to look too deep into my work and have to approach things so "annal-itical". I thought it was pretty plain as day. Like when I painted a picture of my wife and had it on display for a while. People were like "I don't get it" and "who is that?" and most of all "what does it mean? It's a frickin' picture of someone! that's all. ok. here we go... Once upon a time, in the land of sound... Let's go back to where it all began. A southern wind blew in, bringing with it, a new sound and a new high energy. A new sound free from traditional structure. An infectious groove that stemed out of a Sunday morning service, on a bright April day, that left one's foot tappin all the way into a speak easy, later that night. This sound leaped into the hearts of those that heard it, and made their bodys shake! The sound was free and contained a power to free. When I was a kid, I used to be able to walk out onto my front porch and hear the most beautiful music I've ever heard. In some deep hills accross the way there was a church about the size of your average living room. One day, I went walking through the woods to see where this great sound was coming from. I came across this little building in the middle of nowhere. Inside was one piano and people packed inside and out just singing and claping their hands. I was noticed and invited to join. That was the inspiration for the first few lines. It was what it was like in the 50's and before that inspired some of the rest. If you've ever been to a black church service, you'd know what I was talking about. GROOVES were born there. Great stuff came out of the church on Sunday morning. Then later that night, some of the same people that were at church that morning were grooving at a "speak-easy". Back when segragation was common, People with "dark skin" had to make their own recreational places. Music, dancing, booze was all there. Think of the movie "the color purple" for that image. People all hanging off the rafters cramed into this little place jamming and dacing. White people like Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis hung out in places like this. That's how it was introduced to mainsteam. Later on, people like James Brown and Motown brought it to fruitation. There was so much creative and beautiful music that came out then. BUT!!! Mr Money Man Once this music was found to be marketable, it got owned by an idustry. It was capitalized by corporations not artists. And thus, products were created instead of songs. So now all these artists were signed artists. owned dig? Cloned Funk, artificial synthetic funk Started out to be a stab at DISCO. meaning the "white man's funk" but it really applies to just about everything the corporations were putting out as a product. From elvis and jerry lee to the boy bands of today. NOT ALIVE. a product. a scheme to make money not art. owning the airwaves clear-channel. radio stations that play local or otherwise "tallent" are getting fewer and slim. Almost all radio stations are under clear channel. Sometimes a great tallent will emerge, but usually get's shouffled into the system or made into an image that sells. This has been going on for so long that the next generations almost will never be hipped to REAL musicianship. Unless they have cool parents like me! Funk was enslaved, imprisoned and almost forgotten. People like George Clinton, Prince, Little Richard, think they own their music? How hard is it to find some of these great albums anymore. It's like if it's not in rotation, then it's not on the store shelf. Now comes the NFO. Never got into this crap to begin with so we have an incredible opprotunity to make our own rules! Yes the last line was for Mr. Money Man (If you got a better name, tell me now.) and is not on the radio show. I think I just wanted to see if the apple knew how to pronounce those words! That's the last time I think I will explain myself again. That was exausting. Good Christmas! If it ain't fun, it ain't worth doing. "you know it's true" that part was for you. ... You've ruined the mystery now! Nah seriously the message is cool, and when I said 'artistic' before I meant exactly what you've just referred to with your painting. Thankfully this aint no Dali! I love Vina's radio tuning idea for the places where the songs are mixed also. Funk On! ..... BULLSEYE!

And I thought I would get floored with imediate hate posts. I (think) will have a slow week and month for that matter and plan on working daily on this think. There are some frame issues and a whole lot more content and revisions I want on there so Dec. looks good. I hate sites that depend on screen settings but... oh well. Maybe I can fix that sooner than later.

Very clean, swift, and great CONTENT! Yeah, but I got jack for images right now. That's what I'm working on. The one thing that really stands out is that there's no scroll bar on the forum link, which is odd, since there's scroll bars on the other pages. Maybe it's something in the forum's code. Who knows. Very colorful and it looks damn professional. You did a great job man. Don't sell yourself short. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

When I looked at it on a PC, there it was. I have a solution that I'll implement tomorrow with a few other updates. Been crackin at it since 8:30 this morning, no lunch or dinner. I thought I'd have some "alone" time over the thanksgiving holiday, but... those darn visitors needed too much attention! I promised Dec. 1st!
