Does anybody have a problem with background applications interrupting the midi engine while using sequencing software like Cakewalk on an XP operating system computer?Check this out: I'm using a Toshiba laptop with 1.50ghz and 512 megs of ram with Cakewalk Sonar 2.2 XL through a MOTU Midi Express 128 (8x8) to six different synths,namely the Triton Le,Alesis Quadrasynth Plus Piano,2 Kawai K-1's,Ensonic SQ-1 and VFX and have yet to incorporate an EMU Proteus Keys into my production.Every so often a slight delay in tempo will occur.It is random and on different songs. This has been a recent problem since I started using the MOTU interface. When I used a Midiman 1x1 interface I did not notice a problem as such.Any ideas from the Midi competent players in the org?

I found that if I closed ALL unnecessary applications (i.e. cont/alt/del) then any latency differences would dissappear completely...I don't use a midi at the moment but recording audio in a multitrack ontop of some loop used to show latency only variably and I couldn't figure out why. I guess it all depended on how many processes were running on the day because i use my computer for a whole host of other things besides recording the sounds of dying cats.

I close everything down. It's best to hit ctrl/alt/delete and highlight each program running in the background and hit end task. This includes virus scanners and screensavers.
