Any1 know where I can find a talkbox like Roger used I know I have posted this b4 but I'm still lookin' 4 a talkbox, not a vocoder which Roger used. I am lookin' the EXACT sound and have looked on the Internet & all I find is vocoder's or the guitar talkbox's. Roger used a keyboard/synth and used the plastic tubing 2 speak in2. I think that Roger & his brother made them but not sure as Teddy Riley uses a talkbox which is the same as Roger used.
If any1 can help that would b cool. Thanx!

Digitech Talker. I played with a guy a few months ago that used one of these with a bass guitar - sounded TOTALLY like the bass voice on More Bounce to the Ounce (the "mooore bounce. much more bounce"). DEFINITELY a cool doodad, I have no idea how it works. Alesis just came out with one as well, called a Vocoder. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eB...gory=38070 OR. There's a doodad called a Talkbox - I've seen Roger using it in videos. it's basically a small amp enclosed in a box, with a tube coming out, that goes in your mouth (you saw it in Kalifornia). You could build one easy. I'm making one this week and I'll record it to give you some ideas of how close it is. I THINK the key is in the eq on the amp - to pump the sound thru the tubing, and into your mouth, you're going to have to work on the eq to make it sound decent. There's a few sites out there that cover how to make one. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

guitar talkbox will work on a keyboard .
it works on the midrange be it a guitar or a keyboard. A Talk Box This is a guitar and AMP driving a midrange horn driver with a tube attached to the diaphram instead of a horn shaped sound output fixture. The open end of the tube is placed in your mouth and the guitar sounds are shaped by your mouth as if you were talking just found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eB...egory=1288

Well, the actual talkbox he used, he built it himself with some help. Other than that you would have to pick up one of the "old school" style ones that can blow your amp! hehe I know I mentioned this before but I went to Guitar Center once and this older crack head kinda guy that worked there swore that he knew Roger and he learned about talkboxes from him. Long story but anyway, he was talking about the FX he used and stuff. It was interesting but I was just curious if he knew what planet he was on to begin with. hehehe :+)
I will tell you this. Forming your mouth to get all of hte sounds...especially the harder ones is a HUGE pain in the butt! I haven't figured out a fair amount yet and I have had this thing for about 7 or 8 months! I got tired of trying I guess. hehe Oh well, good luck and if you find any info on shaping your mouth to form certain sounds let me know. I looked before but I found 2 or 3 sites on the subject that didn't really help. Take care and good luck! :+)

Thanks 2 u Bootsinox, Otan and redrider808.
As 4 'building' a 'talkbox' I would like 2 see how u can make them. Perhaps if u make 1 Otan u will tell me how I could make it 2. As 4 makin' the sounds, Roger sang with the plastic tubing in his mouth, this must b how the sounds r made (I think ). I think the 'talkbox' effect is so cool, so anymore info is cool! Thanks!

www.google.com, type in the words build a talkbox guitar
Okay, I found the site that covers how to build your own: http://www.headcrack.com/...php?c=talk Another one with a sample of the results: http://www.onlinerock.com...lkBox.html This one looks to be pretty in depth: http://www.olywa.net/blame/talkbox.htm Okay, just one more: http://www.generalguitarg...lkbox.html - - - - - - - LASTLY, I found out that I have had in my basement, all this time, a doodad that has a VOCODER effect. I tried it out last night, and it does work. Unfortunately, all I get get it to sound like is "Mr. Roboto" by Styx. And if you know me, you'll that that "Mr. Roboto" is the LAST THING I'd ever want to sound like. I'm going to fiddle around with it and post some samples for reference... I CAN get a good "gimme some of that BOODAYYY" and that's about it. That, and "mister roboto". The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I KNOW for a FACT what he used (yes it was built), where one of the original ones is, and several other interesting facts. I'll just say this:
Roger was a MASTER of this instrument. Master. You ain't gonna pick one up today and sound like him tomorrow. NO WAY! The smart move would be to just track down a Guitar Talker. Its SAFE and you get to keep your fillings in your teeth if you have them. Secondly, using a guitar with it will only get you close...you'll still end up sounding more like Peter Frampton than Roger. YOU NEED A SYNTH. Oh, the "sss" sounds are hard as hell to get out clearly. Try smiling when you mouth the "s" words. And I'm out.

I agree - the vocoder is nothing like the talker.
But hey, we do what we can with what we gots. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Just had to drop in 2 more cents. Roger used specific types of effects together too for his sound. I can't really remember the chain of effects but I will see if I can find it. Take care! :+)
