New Tunes! Help fix 'em - opportunity for collaboration...

Hey all - as I promised I've been working on a few songs and they're in various stages of completion. I posted five on Soundclick (the link below). They are: 1) two versions of Velvet Promise, one instrumental, the other with my half-ass attempt at vocals. This is the tune that I've never been able to sing, so I've included the instrumental for anyone that wants to give it a shot! (Vina?) If you can't understand the words and need clarification let me know. 2) untitled69 - sort of funky thingie - I have no vocals for it, either. I didn't do a real good job of mixing and it probably needs some tweaking with the instrumentation, but you'll get the idea. Feel free to add your own vox here, too. 3) jazzmusings - a snippet of a longer piece. I just wanted to see if I could play something jazzy on the keyboard. You be the judge. 4)Don't Come Home - very different from stuff that I usually do - keyboard derived, also. Feel free to critique, add your own vocals or instrumentation, etc. I need feedback, please. Thanks!

im diggin the beat of Velvet Promise, but like u said u was half attempting on the jam, and it would b nice 2 hear a womans voice on this. Kinda "lost at the beach" vibe 2 it.

I listened 2 "Run Away (From U) also. I think u have ur thing goin on on this one.

Most of ur songs are moody and mellow though. They almost fall in2 the same vibe. This one is groovin right in.

I dont understand y u put urself down sumtime (and Otan). U can sing and play instruments..shit wish eye could!

Well, thanks, PP4 - I always appreciate your feedback. As for the whole puttin' myself down thing, I guess I'm just trying to stay humble and things don't always come out as nice and as polished as I'd like. I don't imagine any of these songs as the final definitive versions - just demos or blueprints to be improved upon in a studio by good musicians. I'm competent, but you don't hear me doing any complicated guitar or keyboard licks...hehehee.

Because they 2 me probably would b the slow moody ones...alternative..etc. Alternative bands and stuff..that's U. But I listen 2 ur stuff because every1 appreciates feedback no matter who it is. Just form SOMEONE 2 hear them out. And I like 2 b some1 who can help u along the way man smile.

That's what I appreciate about you, man. Most of it's probably not a style that you really care for, but you tell me how you feel about it anyways. That's cool! Fave Prince songs? I like most of P's different styles. I really love the funk stuff like Lady Cab Driver and the rockin' stuff like LGC and Computer Blue and even the ballads. I really like Condition of the Heart - it's one of my faves! As for other music that influences me - there's a ton of it. I don't know if it's as obvious as I think it is that I like The Beatles, Radiohead and Coldplay, but I also really enjoy Ryan Adams, too! That's the thing I love about Prince so much - he covers so many different styles and genres of music. I'm going to try to dig out some older tapes that were recorded on my 4-track by my band - just rehearsals and shit. I may post them, too. Anyway, thanks again.

untitled69 - dude, do I need to tell you about ripping of well known songs like star69? MAN SOME PEOPLE!!

Okay. I dig the song - it's got a great groove, but the reverb on the drums is over the top. That would maybe be the one thing I would suggest to pull back on. It's got a GREAT live feel to it - are you playing some of the percussion live? It's real spontaneous. There's some kind of leading hook missing - no - the keyboard line is BADASS - go listen to Mirwais' "Disco Science" - you'll recognize the song when you hear it. That's a very sparse song that is along the lines of your instrumental - so - just suggesting that you go check it out to steal some ideas. I mean, get some inspiration, I mean, so you'll know what you'd better not do unless you wanna get copped for being a Vanilla Cracker Ass Dog.

bitter? me? MOI? no. just being funny. white, and funny.

So, Otan, does that mean that you like it or not? LOL. You can take it and collaborate on it, too. Put vox or whatever on it and repost it - it's cool. It'll probably sound like Pat Boone meets Aaron Carter, but... Yes, I am adding live percussion to the drum machine, sort of. The drum sounds are from my keyboard. Yep, I know - there's a lot o' verb on them drums!

I am really impressed by the instrumentals. Jazzmusings was really something different that I wouldn't have expected from you but I likey a lot. I disagree with Otan I think the reverb in untitled69 is great. I prefer the instrumental version of Velvet Promise I would like to steal that one razz.

Jazzmusings is pretty cool! I'm no jazz expert, but it sounds pretty jazzy to me.

Don't Come Home. Turn down the keys and turn up the guitar. (Did I just say that?)

Untitled69. I like the reverb on the drums. It gives the track a distint sound. I REALLY dig the keyboard sounds on this one. Square waves rule! I would put the percussion in the background more. This is pretty experimental for you! Groovy.

Velvet Promise. Sounds kinda Chili Pepperish, but with your own twist. I like the string part on this, mixed in perfectly. I really like how it builds at 2:30. I might be able to add vocals to this later on. Right now I'm super busy looking for a new place to live.
