Updates! What's keeping you freaks busy?

So yesterday I cancelled all gigs with bands this week - that's three, count-em, three different bands I backed out of - something like $400 I pissed away. I decided I gotta take a break and work on my music, and family, and my FINGERS.

I don't know how old you other freaks on guitar are, but I ain't THAT old, but my knuckles are killing me from playing so much. I NEVER thought that would happen. I wonder if it's from bad form, or years of knuckle popping...

hmm.

SO I came up with a great concept for my next funkstravagantic hit, "I Was High At the Time" That's right. A stoner song. Think of classics like "Mary Jane" or "Angel Dust" - there's just not enough stoner funk out there.

It's not a song of redemption or living right. More of a song that will recount some of my stupider excursions in life, and how, at the time, it seemed like a brilliant idea... and those of you that have been under an influence will know what I'm talking about... that brilliant pair of super-long cutoffs, or the haircut that was going to SET YOU APART - yeah, that kinda stupid crap. (if you have any stories you'd like to get immortalized in 4 lines of the song, just shout them out and I'll put em in there)

I'm hoping to get home tonight and wrap up some basic tracks on it, as well as FINISH my vocals on funkaholic's tune.

Oh - LASTLY - I found a Fender Jazz Fretless for $250 over the weekend. It was a Japan Jazz, but MAN it played sweet. I went to buy it on monday and sho nuff, it was gone!

What a bummer.

Having family and girlfriends stay over for the last two weeks - that snuffs my creative flame, although I did manage to showcase some recordings.

I have quite a few stories re. navigating the astral planes but they're all probably too rude or surreal! The STUPIDEST one has to be this... I was operating lights for a show at uni, but wasn't really on top form 'cause of some 'erb. There was a girl with me doing the sound cues, and I was showing off with the fact that noone really gave a funk how the lights went - in fact I was doing completely random combinations and then coming up with this wank philosophy as to how it perfectly represented the emotions of the performance at the time. To have such control over lighting while in that state is quite fun...I remember I had lots of purple! I was being sooo cool with this girl that I felt the need for a cigarette. So I'm smoking away, and eventually finish it. I remember saying something like, "Don't do these things, they'll kill you..." and then for some unfathomable reason, I stubb the fucker out on her hand, thinking it was the ashtray. Yeah she punched me, but didn't scream amazingly. Now the thing was I felt so guilty that I immediately lit up another cigarette and stubber the thing out on MY hand! AND THEN SHE PUNCHED ME AGAIN! Anyway, things calmed down but my higher state of consciousness couldn't grasp her (HER?!) irrational behaviour, so I switched one of her tapes while she was sorting some drinks. There was a Chinese portion of the show involving traditional dance to simple plucky Chinese music, but somehow their ambience got screwed when George Michaels 'Fast Love' came through the speakers. I thought it was really funny at the time, what can I say!? I get pretty stupid when stone but that night the karma boomerang hit me like no other!

I cant record songs, i am without a guitar, and i don't know how to record rock songs on the computer. is there a way to record a rock song on the computer? how can i record drums? i hate to mess with samples, it always goes out of the tempo of the music with cakewalk. :/
How can i record a rock song with an acoustic and midi drums? it will suck :p

I've been really busy at work and freelance stuff at night. So it'sit's work all day, work until I fall asleep, then repeat. It's no way to live but I need the money to buy a drum set and a vocoder. Priorities shrug

I also have got to get to the gym, I'm turning into Jabba the Hut with this bullshit work schedule.

Otan, turning down gigs, sore knuckles and a fretless regret? Damn, those are thethings blues songs are written about lol

I look forward to getting back into the music this weekend but also important, I look forward to your stuff.

peace

You have to position yourself in the right place. Go listen to Nine Inch Nails. There's some super hard rock on the first album without guitars, the second album too. It's tricky, but you could do it. And as far as getting a rock song with acoustic - go listen to Street Fighting Man by the stones - nothing but acoustics on that song but MAN it's powerful.

But yeah. Get your electric and pronto.

edit: also - mess with samples in ACID. Cakewalk ain't too good with looping samples.

I've been looking for a new apartment with my boyfriend. We want to move out of our 1 bedroom and get a 2 bedroom so we can have more privacy. Check it out, we are both creative people, he's a writer. So we are going to use the bedrooms as our personal studios and sleep in the living room! It will be like a studio apartment with 2 offices.

So I think we found a good place and we may be giving our 30 day notice this week. Therefore, this next month I will be busy throwing away the clutter and packing stuff up.

I hear you man. My boyfriend and I have been eating out tooo much lately because we've been so busy looking for a new place. Plus, I've been smokin too much wacky tobacky to relax. Yesterday I got a migraine that was sooo bad I threw up. I gotta slow down and take better care of myself. For real.

Slave2dagroove: My axe will be ready this month, I am very excited, Collar Of Skin will go back to rehearsing because we REAAlly found a good drumer. yeah, go to the gym! It's healthy, music can stress sometimes because its very emotional or rational, we need to stress out doing animal activities like to run or to punch, hehe. I am doing lots of sports lately, CAPOEIRA, that is a regional fight/dance style of Brazil, it's cool you can kick and punch but you cant hit anybody, is kinda african, it's funky :p and normal fitness banging some weights.

OTAN: i love i fuckin love nine inch nails, pretty hate machine is a classic in my book, i never tought about composing industrial songs maybe i will try it later.

Vinablue: How are you girl? are you a junkie now? dont do it, some time ago i was into heavy drinking and smoking, but now i am a sport guy for sometime, uhnn, until my band go back rehearsing eheheh :p
