MY NEW SONG! Hey! I have a new song for you to listen to. It's called "He Delights In You". It's a funky dance workout. Even if you aren't into the message of the song, I bet you'll like the music. Here is the link.

The bass drum has disappeared now - all I hear is the rest of the keyboard - no bass drum to anchor it. Also - I'd suggest double your voice on the chorus to put more emphasis on it. (or double up PARTS of the lyrics to add more emphasis on SOME of the parts to add dynamics) As it is now, it just sounds like you're just reading a statement of sorts, making up the melody as you go along. I like when your sing in a lower voice, it's funkier.
This song is cool and because ofthe message it borders on Gospel. I wonder what it would soundlike with a quick snare and bass (like gospel)? Do you do any music with your church? If not, you should take this to them, I can already see people dancing in the aisles.

Hi Jason,
I really like the groove and the individual parts, funky as always! But I think you really need to work on the sound of your production. It all sounds very thin to my ears. I bet if you would use phatter drum sounds and bass and some compression this jam would kick my butt. What instruments and software do u use for recording your songs? Peace, Geoffrey RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Thanks for the cool feedback and great comments everyone! Beau, I wanted to kind of go on and on in that song to give it that preacher kind of feel. You are right about the doubling up though, I could do that. As far as the voice tho, I will keep it that way for now and add on later. I gotta release this stuff! I am gonna go to a place here locally and give them some copies of the new CD's.
Funkaholic, I use a Korg N364, Tascam 4 track tape deck recorder, dual CD burner, Harmon/Kardon home audio noise reduction deck, VoTec external voice synth, and an old audio technica mic. That's it. Hardly any digital recording, all analog, no home PC. Peace, JD

Plus, I reeaallly want a Linn drum machine, and I reeeaaallly want a talk box/vocoder. That combination of sounds along with a Korg Karma or Triton, and I would be in the house!

Oh MAN, I can totally hear the Linn on this. You gotta get one, you'll funk it up! I dig this new deep and sexy voice of yours! I LOVE the keyboard part that starts at about 3:30. I love shit like that. One of the other keyboard parts almost sounds like Mary Jane Girls "My House". How do you get all these cool Prince-like sounds out of the same keyboard I have?!?!?!
The baseline kicks Poor Jason... so many songs, so little time... All the keyboard sounds are sooo great! DAYUM. I agree with all the production tips everyone gave, but there is no denying that this is one of your best tunes. So much music in there! I love that. You could sing it and get more attitude in the vocal. MAN, I can totally hear this like a Prince song, the way he sings, kinda sexual even though it's about God. Don't know if that makes sense... gotta think of an example.

Good luck finding an affordable Linn Drum machine, they are very rare and expensive. You'd better buy a PC and get yourself some good software and samples. In that manner you can have much more fun for your money. Just a thought... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

i know the critics love u in New York. we r from the same planet. 2 bad some of our friends don't realize u can be funky and praise God at the same time. King David said praise God with a loud sound. Also with wild dancing and uninhibited celebration in His spirit. Look at it my friends, it's right there in the book of Psalms. But unfortunately most "religious" people and churches overlook or ignore this part in the bible. Where do us crazy musicians think our wildness originated? U think u made it up all on your own?

sigh. Otan, what's there to sigh about? I don't understand. Or did you two have a discussion on some other thread that I missed??? Ehhh - it's just the religious stuff. I initially wrote some tirade and there was no point to it. So I just put that sigh instead... I don't sit too well with religion being credited as the source of everything - and yeah, I've ranted and raved about it before - but hey - freedom of speech, it's not my place to go off - I like Tal - we're friends - we're just in different places, that's all. I should have just said nothing at all. It's been a long week and I'm grumpy. Sorry. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

Well y'all, I don't wanna offend anyone here, but black music (funk music was started by black people) stemmed from tribal music and Southern black gospel music. I have hundreds of references I can list. Blues came right out of the Black Christian churches of the South. Many other kinds of music came from blues, including (down the line) funk. Many white churches in appalachia and the south had a deep soulful folk sound to their gospel hymns, and country and bluegrass came out of that.
Peace, JD | |

I know man. Sorry I got my panties in a minor twitch.
And sure FP - everything stems from God. Right. Lots of traditional hymns are based on German drinking songs. I'm sure you knew that, right? The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3
