UPDATED: New Track!

Hey guys, this is one of the tracks I'm working on right now. The ending still needs work so I faded it out. I'm very excited about my new stuff. Right-Click and Save Entropy over here:

http://home.att.net/~vina...elong.html

Update: I uploaded a better version today, 9/1. The shaker and echo baseline were missing because they play on my soundcard and I had to patch a cable out of my soundcard and back into it to record the sounds. nuts I also put some reverb on the singing part and turned up the vocal in the verses.
music

I also have a new version of Flutter with Re-recorded vocals and a guitar solo by my friend Butterfly. I'll be putting that up as soon as I edit the vocals some more.

Plus a few other surprises... mr.green

Here are the lyrics to Entropy

I was walking through the ocean
I was flying through the sea
I was living to protect you
I was dying to be free

Still U say, “It’s not Heaven”
Still U say, “It’s no dream”
This fantasy that’s drowning me
Is Hell for the virgin of the sea

I was lucid in my corruption
Translucent in my greed
I was shaking off the feathers
Throwing ashes in the breeze

Still U say, “It’s not Heaven”
Still U say, “It’s no dream”
You must succeed, to envy me
Don’t preach to be redeemed

I can’t be me
I must live beyond this dream
It feels like dying
Now that I begin to breathe

I love ur style. that new song has a great beat. U ever listen to steve vai, he has a similar sound instrumental wise on his newer albums.

that song would sound great with some guitar. some nice oriental/electric guitar sound. smile

Your voice has real potential...sultry...sexy...nod Needs something...some alcohol maybe...or perhaps some echo effect to add weight--a ballroom filter perhaps. Your voice seemed quiet, still a bit unsure of itself...

Good off-the-beaten-path track, though. Keep it flowin, Vina!

<---still finds some of her sounds reminiscent of the really odd band, "Severed Heads."

But the lead singer of Severed Heads couldn't really sing...he just had some really fucking strangely cool loops...Vina has Bjork potential--she wants to be a little weird. And it's priceless. We have plenty of Brittany's already...dime a dozen...very few Bjorks...

Definitely an interesting track. But I'm totally lost without any guitars!!!

Just kiddn. It sounds very electronic - almost like Vanity 6 meets Thomas Dolby meets Devo - only in the odd/quirky music - and I KNOW I'm WAY over-generalizing the style.

I like it bunches tho.

Thanks man! Yeah, I dig Steve Vai. I bought Passion and Warfare when it came out. I had a friend that was totally into him. I also saw him with David Lee Roth on the Skyscraper tour with that heart shaped guitar. Then I got Fire Garden when I was reminded of him at my cousin's house. I totally respect his creativity. I haven't heard his newer stuff though... Maybe I should!

hmmm I was thinking of some asian vocal samples here and there for this song. Guitar I don't quite hear in this song, but if you'd like to give me an idea of what you're thinking, be my guest! I do plan on having a bluesy piano solo at the end.

Thanks again for the feedback. I dig your guitar playing.

Hey Janeau! I remember you sent me a nice note about my music before. biggrin Oh, you have NO idea what a compliment it is to me to 80s, let alone New Wave! I love that stuff! Duran Duran is the reason I started making music. So thank you, that means a lot.

lol Alcohol? Maybe. I have a second track really low, in the background. Guess I should turn it up more. Don't know about any kind of reverb. I wanted the vocals to be a bit dry like Madonna's in Erotica. But I was going more for the feel than the actual technical aspect so I didn't listen to it. Oh crap, I thought I was singing with more attitude and confidence.

Good off-the-beaten-path track, though. Keep it flowin, Vina!

Haven't heard of Severed Heads, but Bjork... nod Thanks again. I fucking LOVE Bjork. I'll never have that voice but if I can reach that level musically and be respected as a composer like her... Well that is what I strive for. Thanks for noticing it in it's infant stages in me.

Vanity/Thomas Dolby/Devo? Hey, that's pretty cool! biggrin The song was originally inspired by Close to the Edge by Art of Noise. The bridge is Bjork inspired and I guess the 80's in me comes out no matter what I do. Thomas Dolby is a synth-God so I can dig that as a compliment. Don't know much Devo, but they are New Wave... U know I love that shit. Vanity? Well Prince wrote her music and she was sexy so thanks for that too! I don't think you over-generalized.

As far as guitars go, there are only 3 of my songs that I hear guitar on and this isn't one of them. I'm like you with keyboards when it comes to guitar. I've got all these layers in my head, I have NO idea where to fit a guitar in. Jem thinks guitar would go good, so I'd like to hear what he can come up with. You are welcome to play around with it if you get bored. Anyone is really, I'm kinda curious now.

There is another sound on this song that I couldn't record. The base sound is doubled but the soundcard was playing it internally, so I can't record onto it and play from it at the same time. sad I'll have to figure something out because the Korg's General Midi sounds are not quite the same as the soundcard's, they are Roland patches.

Anywho, thanks for listening. rose music

You know now that I listened to it again, you're right about the singing part. I think that's what you mean maybe? The spoken part sounds ok, right? The other part where I'm singing sounds like it needs more gusto. I get a little self-conscious because I record in my living room in a small complex and I don't want the neighbors to hear me. Especially since they can't hear the music in my headphones! Damn, I gotta get over that, I guess. I wish I had my own recording room out in the country, lol.

Girl...close and baffle all the windows in your room... and sing from your gut. U have some real potential with the clever structuring of your tunes... and your speaking voice is very sexy. Your intonation is good too. But you're not letting yourself go.

sad I sing in the living room. I would have to (what's baffle? confuse ) close that window and the kitchen window then it gets REALLY hot in here. bawl I want a studio! Ok, enough with the tantrum.

Thanks for the compliments. batting eyes Means alot coming from another woman. (The sexy compliment). Hey, let me ask you something. The verses, the spoken parts, they sound ok right? But the singing part is where I need work, right? Part of the reason for that is those notes are really hard for me. I think they are on my break so I get a little weak. But that is what I hear for the song. It's my wannabe Bjork moment and I know I don't quite get it. Gotta practice mo.

Oh, and what is baffling? Like put something around the edge of the window for noise leakage? What should I put? mr.green Thanks again for your feedback.

"your speaking voice is very sexy. Your intonation is good too"

V I love the spoken parts of the song.

Maybe 'baffling' in your case is not really part of the solution. Baffling has to do with reverberation, generally done in studios or rooms that have brick walls or high ceilings - where the sound gets lost (I'm sure you can find something on-line about baffling). Singing in your living room probably has little to do with baffling. More to do with allowing yourself to breathe and sing from your gut (literally). U said yourself that you were conscious of your neighbors...and that in itself is restricting; makes U more conscious of them than your voice. As U said yourself, U want a studio...or a sound(proof) room that will allow U to hear your voice strong...not necessarily loud...but strong; which 4 U...greatly would compliment the soft of your spoken word.

Your new track is very good! I've listened to it with my headphones and there are a lot of beautiful sounds used in this song. Your productions are sounding more professional with each new song you present us!

It's a kind of combination of 80's new wave with Bjork sound to my ears. But with a twist of your own. I like the refrain a lot vocally. But the song is a little short, only 1.55 minute. Is that correct???
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Aaawww, thanks for noticing. I'm conscious of every little sound I put on my songs. I'm glad someone else notices them! I was thinking that is probably why I don't turn my voice up high enough because I want people to hear the music too!

kisses Thanks sweetie. I'm working on it!

Um, will you marry me? touched That's basically what I want to go for. My sound is emerging. I'm so excited!

I cut the ending off because it's not done yet. I just wanted to share what I was working on and update my webpage. You can hear what happens next as it's fading out... That beat repeats and I'm working on a kinda bluesy piano solo and chanting some lyrics over that. Then I'm not sure if it's going to end or if I'm going to come back to the verses.

hug Thanks again sweetie.

Vina, I like this a lot. You are getting to be a master of mixing. Just compare the songs on your site, this one sounds amazing.

It's dark and I hear a little 80's but I don't know who the bands are mentioned here. My favorite part is the last verse, it's just got that haunting minor thing happening.

Thanks for sharing this stuff.

Whazzup Vina. I listened to the track early this mornin' and thought it to be well put together. The instruments definately each have their own space. In my humble opinion the vocal seemed dry. But if "you" are going for that dry "effect", leave it where it is. Never allow something that "you" feel is accurate be changed by opinion. That is "your" self-expression! Try panning some of them instruments baby girl. It widens your music out.

And as far as your voice, I think you should let it out! Sometimes intonation prob's come from not letting music come from your gut or soul! Don't be scared'. People love to hear confidence over a great voice. It sounds like your using a KORG X5D. That is a great synth, "have one myself". Love the production!! Looking forward to more. Peace!

Well hello there! Thanks for listening to my track. It's a very rough demo right now. I appreciate you noticing my "well put together" arrangement. I have worked on this track a lot. It used to be kinda muddy and I changed the base and drum sounds until it was balanced just right.

Yeah, the dry vocal is on purpose. I've only eq'd it. I was going for a Madonna/Erotica vibe. I'm listening to it now (finally) and trying to figure out if there is any reverb on it. Hmmm. I'll keep workin on it.
