Not trying to rain on anyone's parade but are you sure saying Funk 25 times makes it so?

these file sizes are ridiculous. Sure members of the NFO can wait that long but I strongly doubt anyone else will. MP3s are fine & sound great but flash files are a few megabytes

And again - WHY is this posted over here for discussion? As soon as the critiques start up, the manic fits will begin all over again.

By the way, thanks for the KIND words, Tal. I didn't mean anything to you in my previous statement. You are right, it is a little long vocally for a flash intro, but we might edit and shorten for the final copy. This was just a fun thing to get out there. I'm glad you liked it!

Peace,
JD

I wasn't trying to wack anything, i just like to say what i feel. My thoughts on this are worth no more or less than anyone cares to make of it.

The meaning of funk is not fixed but it is whatever you want it to mean for yourself.
The fact that my interpretation is a different one than yours shouldn't make you uncomfortable. Just as people who comment on my stuff have every right to say what they feel and they still deserve my respect.

No more fighting! Constructive criticism is ok and we can handle it, right?

The music really isn't important here. Its the message. Jason wrote the State of the Funk address and I thought it was BRILLIANT. Funny and creative. Then NFO suggested we make a comercial out of it with music. So Jason slapped this together and I think it's a great first draft.

When I first read it, I heard it in my head in a faster voice and with more attitude and animation. So this is Take One and Take Two will be better.

LOL, NFO asked me to do it too. Imagine how UNFUNKY THAT would be!

"fighting"? Huh?... "fire back" ...Huh? "so-called friend" ...Huh? sensitivity is good, but let's not carried away here, we're all adults...

I guess poking fun at myself did nothing to lighten up the mood here.

Is it the heat? What is going on? Can we just take a deep breath?

So anyway... back to what Cloud was saying. Yes, it should be smaller. Not everyone will wait for it. And I'm assuming this is a work in progress, everything is, isn't it?

If you can't take a little criticism then don't post your work, it's as simple as that

Hey Hey Hey...I go away for a week and...

Constructive criticism is both asked for and delivered quite well here. And like Big said... or someone...if you can't take it - don't post and ask. But I do think because of the gracious delivery from everyone (I've never seen anything but) peeps come here exactly for this purpose.

As for the 'commercial' I CAN simply say that it does nothing for me ...but JD KNOWS I HOPE...that it's only MY opinion and whatever I back it up with is still only my opinion. I thought someone was going to take all 16 tracks and sample a 30second spot. 30seconds is more than enough.

As Jim Morrison once sang
"when the music's over...turn out the lights".

Peace & Light ---?

First of all, it says Take One so, to me that says it's a work in progress. So there is no need to get all excited about it not being up to par. From what I can see, this was put together VERY quickly.

Second, at the bottom it says "Download the vocal version to make and submit your own mix." In other words, download the vocal and you can put your own funky music behind it.

Personally, I told Jason I'd rather it be in a normal voice, like his spoken part in Liberation. That's the way I heard it in my head when I first read it.

Constructive criticism is fine and so is any other kind of criticism. Just don't be surprised when it gets taken the wrong way. BigThing, I didn't take what you said the same way Jason did, but I wasn't sure what you meant either. I still don't know if you thought "funk" was repeated too many times or the music wasn't funky to you.

Jason said: "Being an adult means that you respect each other and do not be publicly critical of the work of fellow project members."

And there's the fault in the logic. I get the feeling that everytime something negative is said, panties get in a super twitch. And THAT is why i said "why are you putting it up here". ESPECIALLY if you dont think it's completed.

Positive is NOTHING without negative. If you just want positive feedback, then only play your stuff for your parents. If you want blind praise, play it at church.

But if you want frickin INPUT on what could be improved, what's working, what's NOT, then post it publicly. here OR at that MFnNFO. Either place is public, and you just BRACE your ass for some negative input. It doesn't mean it's NEGATIVELY directed at you.

have you EVER read "the emperor's new clothes"? JD, man, you GOTTA get a thicker skin on shit like this. MY comment wasn't even NEGATIVE way up there... I go on for the day, come back tonight and a SHITSTORM has erupted because you don't want to hear any negative feedback.

I'm sorry, but I DO want negative feedback on my songs. it's the ONLY way I know how I can improve stuff. You won't hurt my feelings if you say my bass playing is crap and the guitars are too damn busy, and WHAT's up with the lame rhymes. It gives me a direction to pursue. If ALL I HEAR is "yeah that's fantastic... ooo... wow..." I'm STUCK because I don't know WHAT TO IMPROVE ON THE SONG.

So RELAX. Get OFF your high horse. OR, STAY ON IT, and ride home and dig your shit in private where no one can comment on the stuff. Good GOD man.

We both did this on our lunch break from two different states, I might add.

We both felt it was a cool rush job and wanted to share it ASAP (i know about the file size issue, sounded crapy otherwise). I didn't really see the religious overtones seeing "The ONE" as the down beat of a song (possible double meaning). Very clever.

Oh well, back to the "New FUNK drawing board".

All ideas are welcome!

Hey everyone. Sorry I got a little upset, it's just that I worked very hard on the song. I recorded it in a very time restrained situation (at lunch), and I expected better response from it. Oh well, I'll have to get my Parliament albums back out and study sommo! smile Back to the drawing board!

Peace,
JD

in case you care, I love it.
