I wrote a Prince song...

This is real funny (to me anyway);

I was playing some guitar last night, just fooling around and recorded a 15 minute improvisation and went to bed.
Today i came home from work and listened to what i had recorded. One part struck me as a real cool composition, so i trimmed the recording to just that part.

I listened and listened and suddenly it hit me that that particular piece was an exact copy of a Prince tune down to the note (mind you , i never bothered to learn that song).

So that is how the subconscious mind works...

Now see if anyone can guess what song it is!!

Purple Rain. But, I'm basing that on the tone, effects, etc. You playin a rickenbacker? stereo chorus, you're proabably wearing hot pants and sneakers, and have your hair all combed over to one side.

Well, no, but you are giving me some serious image pointers eyepop

And we do not have a winner yet! , i can't believe you said purple rain Jason!

Picture the chords a little faster and with some matching piano. In fact i played the tune in question again and all the notes are correct.

Funny thing is , i never really cared for the song untill now hmmm

BTW i play a Les Paul with a digitech Valve FX Beau

Close, because it's almost the same chord progression.

BTW slave, the whole song is just a repetition of what i put in the mp3..., i thought it was pretty boring to put up 3mins of that without vocals... (and believe me, you do not want to hear me sing smile )

Nice tune Bigthing. I too have done this many times. Record a tune for hours, feel really pleased with it & then realise its someone elses, normally Prince smile

It´s the same chords as Prince version of
"A case of U" the way he play it with the guitar
in the intro at First Avenue 1983.The same progression
I think.

Oh. a song off of Ecrapcipation.

I think I heard it maybe once. Sorry - hated that wrecka.

I'm sticking to "A Case of You", even if it's in a different key, it's STILL A Case of You!

Yeah, i bought Emancipation at full price when it first came out, listened to it about 3 times and decided it wasn't very good.

Over the years i played it a couple of times and started to appreciate a few songs. If prince had applied some more quality control he could have squeezed 1 good disc out of it all.
