New funky blues song by me!

This is a long loopy electric blues/funk song I made during a blue period. Isaiah (PaisleyPark4) has heard it before. Let me know what you think- the song is called "U Lied" go here to listen:

JDodson, I like it a lot. Here's a couple of thoughts;

- The vocals seem to dominate the mix (too much "in front") at some points.

- Of course (coming from a guitar player), you need guitars in this.

- This is blues, I'm missing the funk (maybe when you sing "good god"?)

- I love that it's 9:38, just the perfect length

Do you play keys? Are the drums programmed? Is it all you performing, arranging and everything?

So now you're doing blues and I'm working on funk, strange reversal. Stay tuned, I'll have something posted by this weekend! Keep up the great work!

This was one of those rare times when I was in another element and I went with it for a minute. I know about the vocals- I was a little upset when I was singing, so this version was actually a bit lower than the original (the vocals were really loud), and this was the best take. If people ever beat down my door wanting CD's, I will redo it at Kelly's studio in FLA (lol). The funk in it was the synth and the 4/4 funk tempo. Blues doesn't use the straight 4/4 always- I have only heard the straight 4/4 in blues on a few occasions. Many variate on third time or 2/4 rather than keeping the straight time. Kind of like how many songs that Junie Morrison rearranged for Clinton were originally in classical or samba style times and tempos but then Junie funked them up.

I am very happy that you like it! I will have more songs with different styles in the future.

Peace,
JD

Blues: 12 bars, I-IV-V progression, lyrics are AAB pattern. That's where the blues connection comes in, Slave. Blues are at any speed.

Sounds good Jason.

Cool J! Very Controversy-era. I like the brassy keyboard sound. Good keyboard work with the other sounds too. Great vocals as always. You got it goin' on!

woot!

Yes, I know blues can be at any time and what the formats are.

JDod- People will be knocking your door down. Plan on it and keep making music. The vocal suggestion was just that, a suggestion.

With the blues comment, I was just being a smart ass, I'll refrain.

I just listened to this again and it's still really cool.
