Vina on ACID

Otan inspired me to give ACID a try. Therapy did a pretty good job with Surrender to Truth as well, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Mine however, is just loops; no samples or vocals, NOTHING original, lol.

Right click and save. This is just for fun. I've never tried to create with ACID before. I kept wanting to reach for the keyboard, because I couldn't find a sound I was hearing in my head. It was quite a challenge to attempt to make this sound a bit musical. I just might use this more for drum loops in the future though. Who knows.
hmmm

Enjoy...

hey this is cool!

Acid is definitely a stretch from what I'm used to. This whole layering sounds is totally different than my usual multi-track, "play what you want, where you want" approach. It's not that useful for writing SONGS, but kickass for making them REMIXES.

I thought when I read the title of the thread that you were ON acid. I thought "well, this should be interesting" but here you are talking about loop software. Damn.

I like this groove Vina, sax samples are cool but I keep waiting to hear your voice.

You do know that ACID is a loop program, right? You're making a joke out of my pun.

Yeah, I've been thinking about how I could incorporate this into actual music making. I guess just putting drum loops together and using them in songs, or trying different things with them like reversing them, I don't know.

It was a strange exercise, but I forced myself to do it. I kept wanting to reach for the keyboard for a nice ethereal pad sound. It was so abstract, just clicking and dragging stuff. One thing that was cool, was when I sometimes accidentally added the wrong loop and it sounded cool anyway. It does kinda open your mind a bit.

I have a jazz sample cd and lots of eastern loops as well. I've had this program for 2 years, but never did much with it. This was a cool exercise.

Like actual music? Thats what I feel too. With Otan's and Therapy's pieces, I kept wanting to hear a solo or something. I know Therapy's mic broke so she couldn't add more vocals to it. Otan did a great job with the movie samples to fill it out though.

but like u said u were just testin. But hey every1 starts off somewhere, hmmm, i thought about gettin in2 it, but i couldnt get cre8tive enough..it was gettin on my nerves.. lol.

You tried ACID once? Yeah, I've had this program for over 2 years and never could get into just pasting samples together. Like I said, I kept wanting to PLAY something. It used to bug the hell out of me. I feel I can learn some arranging skills with this though.

Yeah, I listened to yours a few times, noticing when you just dropped the drums out completely... But you had the sample thing over it to keep it interesting. My version of ACID came with my soundcard. I can only play with 8 loops at a time. How many does yours have?

This version is the download version - only 8 tracks, so I took the Blazing Samples and strung them together as one long take.

I HAVE used Acid to create a song, and the interface doesn't lend itself to songwriting too well. But for making KILLER jams, it's great.

Yeah, what I would do would be to create a long song like the blazing saddles thing, and leave huge gaps in there, output as a wav file, and import that into my digital recorder so I COULD add a solo over the whole thing.

A little overblown.

I've got the full version of Acid at home, just haven't messed around with it more than doing a little sumpm like this everynow and then -

to me, Acid is like a videogame for musicians.

umm. the PROGRAM. okay, yeah, AND the drug.

But I'm SPEAKING of the program in this instance.

yeah actual music or some lyrics playing over n over..lol. Groove. Are u gonna keep on makin songs with Acid or r u gonna just do both? When u do another album, u should hav both, but play with it and learn it alot though, so it wont all sound the same...I had that problem for 3 or 4 months with MTV Generator..

I dint think I had acid b4, i had N Track Studio.

I just cant stop my MTV Generator though, it seems I can do anything with that, countless beats and compositions can be made as long as u know what u want 2 do.

I might use acid to work with drum loops only, then dump them into Cakewalk. Not sure yet. It's cool, but I kept wanting to reach for the Korg and play a lick. I do need to learn more about this program. It looks like you can tweak the samples, change the pitch and who knows what. Cut them up maybe? I pulled up a window that had the loop as a wave form, kinda looked like it could be edited.

Yes, I want to continue to mess with Acid and Fruity Loops. I REALLY dig artists like Tricky and BT, and Terminator X did some amazing stuff on P.E. records - I LIKE that stuff, but I don't have the patience to slowly develop a song like that... so sure, if I mess with it for a few months, it may develop into something great.

PP4 - whatever method you use - it's whatever you're comfortable with... I tried using Homesite to record midi and audio and just lost interest very quickly because I just didn't know what I was doing. I like Fruity Loops because you have all these sounds and a sequencer right here on the PC - no need to fire up the drum machine, the keyboard, the effects, etc... so I can whup something out a lot faster.

- - - -

I've decided my next release will be a 3-disc document... one for blues, one for rock, and one for funk. Well, and then, now, there will be the remix disc. So yeah. A 4-disc set.

All I really need is the time.

Check local music stores sometime in September, 2020.
