best response to the NFO so far...

from Princefams.com:

I am a big fan of P.Org, and this is the most productive thing that I have ever seen come out of there. If you are ever in MPLS, stop by 1st Ave. Send me an e-mail and we can talk. We have many gigs for Prince tribute artists and there is a big need for original music 'round here. I am really diggin' "Lust", "Liberation" (Rainbow Children feel to it), and "Make Funk Not War" (a late 70's Prince sound), but I really like all of the songs, so don't feel bad cuz I didn't list em, I just prefer the ones above.

Who created the "New Funk Order" and who can participate? I would love to contribute some music. I love this free music thing- this could be big internationally.

HOLY SMOKE! I'd DRIVE all the way up there if they asked me to play FIRST AVENUE! I'D WALK! I'd CRAWL!

I'd drag myself attached to a yugo!

I'd...

Hey before you start selling anything First Avenue isn't that great of a venue. If I took you to the club and you didn't know PR was filmed there you would think that the club is dated and badly in need or repair and cleaning.

That said I have found that the people are pretty cool.

Wait a minute, he just joined princefams today and posted that. I guess we sparked enough interest for him to join and post!

How many of the NFO are NPGMC members? Should we go there and see if we get UNOWHO's interest?

LOVEMACHINE I wish you have the vague idea of the places i used to play in my town.

Imagine you're guy with a jeans jacket and a strato in your hand (me razz) playing in the ugliest place you could think of on a friday (The others days this place is a low level gay bar), with the toilet stinking shit, a crowd full of punks and stoned freaks, and you're afraid they gonna steal your guitar processor, cause even the guitar players of the other bands usually steal the guitar cables.
So there you are playing welcome to the jungle asking yourself why the hell you playing 80's hard rock to those punks asking for Pennywise, NOFX and Nirvana, and in the end, the guy who organized the show gives you a pepsi. A pepsi is all you gain. razz
At least the feedback was partially good, at least they jumped and kicked each other. But the place stinked anyway.
I think that any thing at First Avenue is better than this.

hah! I played a place where the drum riser was rotten, and caved in at the end of our set!

I played a place where we performed next to a pinball machine in the corner... people would PLAY pinball while we played.

I played right after a band where the lead singer was a bald guy in a tutu, singing "lick me nasty"... and he fell off the stage half way through his set. It was funny, I guess.

So, yeah, lovemachine, I'd play First Ave. It would be important to me much more than anyone else in the joint, I suppose. I've done lots of gigs like that; the gig itself blew chunks (as did some of the patrons) but the PLACE held a special meaning... like the gig with the rotten drum riser. REM and B52's, and the Ramones, once played there!! It was probably just as run down back then.

Hey, I didn't dis First Ave, I'd love to play there too. I'd play anywhere! Maybe not where the toilets are stinking, but who knows.

Just the thought of how much music the walls of First Avenue have soaked up.... Shoot, I'd play Canes here in SD, since Prince played a few songs there once for an aftershow.

My next show is at the Atlanta Pride Festival - June 28th, with an all new band. (used to be Blind Slim - a blues/funk band, but I'm dropping the blues, and changing the lineup, and changing the name to FLY -- www.blindslim.com/fly )

The set list will be:
As Good
Come On Baby
Star 69
She's Too Rich For Me
Family Affair
Get Up/Sex Machine...

and if there's extra time, Superhot Ladycop.

Family Affair and Sex Machine are the only covers.

I went out to an open jam tonight and played Family Affair - TORE IT UP. Played with Lola Gulley, Andrew Black, and John McKnight and John Shwenke - the BADDEST rhythm section in Atlanta - currently playing with Delta Moon - (winner of the international blues contest).

Normally, my setlist includes Erotic City, Gett Off, Irresistible Bitch, uh, Kiss, and a million other Prince tunes, as they pop into my head. Nasty Girl - that's another one. and Love Bizarre.

But - obviously, like with "life can be so nice", the way I do them is definitely different than the original.

I'm worn out. It's good to get out and play live again - been on a break since the new boy was born. I'll try to get some recordings of the new band once we start rehearsing... that's right, the gig is in a month and I haven't even MET the bass player and guitarist yet.

LIVING ON THE EDGE!! YEAH!!

not to jack this thread but...

I'm with my "metal" band in this Hole in the hood. In the bathroom people are shooting up and there's a homeless vet sleeping on the couch in front of the bar (while we play). Out front hookers are pissing in the street, crack whores mostly. We're playing Black Flag, Ride the Lightening and early Metallica but mostly Slayer.

We were so pissed off I kicked my own ass when the show was over. Man, those were the good ole days.

I seen the thread. This would be a big boost for us to play 1st Avenue. We could all travel there (if everyone was up to it) and each play our song from NFO Project 1 live.

I hope this works out!

Peace,
JD

Yeah, wouldn't it be cool if we all went to Mpls for the celebration, and our show was part of the week's activitites? Cary lives there already, I think he's already played there. Too bad there is no celly this year. Maybe next time.

Play one instrument to an instrumental track. I do this all the time when I play live.

OR, hay duhh, get some of the other orgers to back you up.

I know of keyboard players, bass players, guitar players that'll back you on drums.

I mean, sure, if we all coughed up the $900 for tix and hotels and stuff.
