Oh, I guess he did! I didn't understand it, since it wasn't like a complete sentence. I'm not bugged about the criticism, I'm just trying to get other people to post.

Any post right now will be met with outsider/ostrazation, I think. We gotta kinda bring the stuff up in other conversations, I think. I don't know where/how, but, every now and then, there's a post about "I'm bored, give me something to listen to" or "who's better than [lame 80s artists or whatever]".

I think if we just bust in the party and start going "HEY THIS IS GREAT! CHECK THIS OUT!" people will be immediately dubious.

It's a very tricky seduction.

Yeah. If the link is just left there with no coments the musc itself will impress the fans and they can big it up.

I don't think so. The link by itself is ominous and very few people will click a link without SOME sort of description of where they're going. It's marketing 101.

Unfortunately again, whatever we say, it's going to be met with doubt at first. Think about the first time you posted a link to your music on HERE... if you haven't yet, it won't be so hard.

But for ME, the first time I posted a link here, I hadn't really joined in too many discussions, so nobody knew me, and therefore, nobody really cared WHAT my songs sounded like... as opposed to now, where they KNOW to avoid them.

So, first - you gotta engage other people. Either in one of those dumbass top 10 lists, or who's better - Prince or MJ or whatever.

I don't think it'll be that easy to win over a group. BUT if you target people individually, and mention something to an individual about the site, THEN, that individual will be inclined to check it out.

ALTERNATIVELY
GET A SET OF STEAK KNIVES FREE!
ANYONE will check something out when you're giving stuff away. SO, if we could somehow drive people by having a giveaway - SHIPPING a printed out disc to people, or a signed disc (which would be really cool, but HOW in the world can we get everybody to sign a disc? that would cost $50 in shipping alone).

so anyhow. either target individuals, or push for an article posted ON the site (so it seems like the site is recommending our site) or lastly, have some sort of giveaway that will drive people to check it out.

It ABSOLUTELY sucks that we have to work so hard to GIVE something away... even JUST to drum up interest - just to get somebody to LISTEN to it.

But once it starts rolling, we'll be stressing over how to get the server to handle all the hits!

Otan is right. I was just letting you guys know what was going on in order to encourage more posts, therefore maybe creating more interest in what we are about.

I think the autographed cd is a great idea, but it would be expensive. Maybe in the future we can have some kind of contest like, "give us a quote for our website, and you will be entered in a drawing to recieve a free cd, autographed by the NFO member of your choice!"

When people enter, we can have some kind of form, geting their email address so we can keep it for future reference. This is similar to something I learned in a Self-promotion class.

The more people we get like Camille4U, the better, and that will come with time. Fans do the best promoting.

Hey, we're talking metaphorically here.

4 months ago, we were a bunch of home musicians that were throwing our songs out to anyone who would listen. 3 months ago, we started getting some songs together to maybe put together something for everyone in this group to check out.

And here we are with a site, a free CD, realizing the initial vision of releasing free music to the masses.

On some levels, that's close to a miracle. Sure, we're not Jesus and I wouldn't insult you and what you stand for to say that we ARE, but, metaphorically, we've realized a miracle that would have been impossible 5 years ago.

That's for sure. That's all I'm saying.

Therapy

I feel kind of out of this.

Weird. I just feel pleased that I am involved.

Look for the praise and the critisism won't be far behind, the two go hand in hand. So I'm quite happy with what I think.

Yeah, I thought about that last night - we're already giving something away, we're just trying to get their attention.

I think my point is that, on the internet, everyone/site is vying for your attention, to get you to check it out. With mp3.com, iuma.com, etc, there's thousands, millions of places to get free music. Very few people will go to a site blindly, even if we're offering free music, unfortunately.

The free steak knives was just a common headline (on all the infomercials - it's always, "WAIT! THAT'S NOT ALL! ORDER NOW AND GET A MINI-SALAD SHOOTER!" And suprisingly, THAT is what gets a lot of people to make that call. The cheap price on the amazing doodad ain't enough... but when you throw in something, like an extra abdominizer, turkey baster, whatever, people go, "hey! THAT'S MORE! THAT'S BETTER!".

So, I'm just sayin, we oughtta try to come up with some sort of "more/better" thing. I dunno what. A forum would be a start. Some sort of online rating system, or "post your reviews", but prepare yourself for LOTS of bad reviews from people with nothing better to do...

IF there were some sort of charting system in place for the songs, that would be kickass.

AND I'm not saying this for my own benefit, hoping to ride to the top of the charts... a LOT of online people like to feel like, "hey! I had an impact on that site!" -- look at all of us, posting here for instance.

SO, if there were some sort of "rate/review these songs" - people would be more interested in checking out the music, knowing that they'd get to give us their 2 francs... cuz EVERYONE, I don't care WHO you are, LOVES to TELL YOU WHAT THEY THINK!!

That's just what I think...
