Obviously this site needs a technical forum but in order to make this MY content and maybe make myself happy (content, duh) I'm putting this question out there.

Can one or all of you smart alec audio geniuses please educate me as to what the reason is that one side of earbuds and headphones shorts out? I'd hate to believe every pair I have ever purchased is made so poorly and I know I could return or exchange them but it's ridiculously a very simple product.
