Peach & Black podcast Anyone know why P&B "episodes will no longer be available through any streaming or podcast apps" and asking for our votes "before we go"? . I see Captain's twitter also says "So I guess I'm retired now?" . Is it legal issues with the estate or a fall out with each other, or something else?

I don't think it would be anything legal with the estate; they have been doing this for a long time and there are other podcasts as well. Perhaps a fall out or maybe one of them doesn't have enough time or interest to go thru the SOTT SDE. That will take many hours and perhaps they didn't order or even recieve the physical copy. They had problem getting 1999 SDE copies.
Would like to get some more info...

Their farewell Facebook post was very sparse. No emotion. As if written by a lawyer. Odd. ...and I’m lamenting the loss of my favorite Prince podcast. 😔 Come here, babe.. yeah...

I'm sure it's not the last we've heard of them

As a group, it seems that it may be. They apparently decided to stop the show 6 months ago, and it seems that they've no plans to do do anything together in the future. . A huge loss to the Prince community.

The time it took to put these podcasts together is huge. Anyone who thinks they sit down for 90 minutes, record and stream it out is hugely mistaken. Recording is prob the easy part. The editing after is the work.
I also suspect that some of that crazy negative feedback they got due to being asked to be involved i the SOTT Movie release by Turbine surely hurt. These guys have consistently delivered thoughtful commentary going back 11 years. No money, and lots of shi&&y feedback over that Turbine release. At some point, you have to wonder if it's worth it
For the amount of good they did (that whopping 1999 SDE release), they must not feel it is worth it any longer.
OR, maybe they are just out of time free time. WE're all getting older!

I've been wondering about this too. It seems like things ended very abruptly. My first thought was that Prince's legal team got to them, what with the title of their show and the new SOTT release. But I suppose it's possible there was a falling out, a death in a family, etc. I can't imagine what else would lead them to drop the podcast so abruptly without any explanation. It seems pretty uncharacteristic.

If it was just a free time issue then I'd have thought they would have just come out and made a "thanks for your support but, sorry, we don't have time any more" statement instead of a cryptic nessage which doesn't actually say they are stopping. . What were the reasons for the Turbine release criticism? I've never got round to listening to their commentary. [Edited 11/17/20 0:57am]

many good points here . let's just pick the 1999 SDE review they did, over 12 hours long, and nobody gave a shit, from memory Captain tweeted a while back for every single hour of show you hear on the podcast, there is approximately 20 hours of work behind it, from listening, note-writing, actual recording time, then all the editing and post-production work . Why would anyone now expect them to to do a SOTT SDE review which would likely be much longer? .

I, for one, loved it. | |

Selfishly stunned. I take beloved things way too much for granted. Gutted. It must be a TON of work. Would be utterly understandable if they needed more support, and I'd guess a great many would have responded if it was stated they needed more support to go on.

It's such a shame they could not review the Sign SDE as their farewell given they are named after that era.

. That's probably part of the problem. I loved it as well. I loved most of their episodes, and I heard almost all of them. It might seem overly dramatic to say it that way, but their podcast contributed to my happiness. I wrote to them once or twice, but I never properly thanked them. . So, no, it's completely wrong to say that "nobody gave a shit", but those of us who loved their work should probably have been more vocal about it.

Also, I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure not a lot of people subscribed to the Peach & Black Plus podcast. They were asking what? $50 or $75 a year for the subscription? That was a very, very weird move from their part. I'm a huge fan of the regular podcast, but that price was ridiculous. . It probably played a role in their decision.

I'm the same. I didn't subscribe to it either, although mainly due to the fact that I wasn't sure if I had copies of the concerts in question. It's not much fun listening to people talk about a concert you know nothing about.
I'd agree that the pricing seemed wrong as well. I subscribe to a podcast network on Patreon for $2/month and I get 5 or 6 different types of pods a day. That's value for money.
I'd have been happy enough to pay something similar for the P&B guys to get, say, one pod every 1 or 2 months of their regular stuff. They could have split the pods into smaller sections to make them last over a longer period if they wanted.

. https://peachandblackplus...ne-patron/ . It's $69.99, not $50 or $75, my bad. So $5.83 per month. . Maybe I'm cheap, but $1-$2 per month is what I pay to the creators I support on Patreon. I could see paying a lot more for professionally-produced content, though. . Honestly, I don't know what's the right price for a podcast subscription. What I know is that if they had been on Patreon, I would have easily given them $2 per month, i.e. $24 per year, for the regular podcast (not the Plus podcast).

Been listening to those guys for years, was really bummed out to learn they were calling it quits. I’m subscribed to their Plus podcast, those guys gave me dozens of hours of great entertainment, it just felt right to support them that way.. yes, maybe it would have attracted more people if they offered lower tiers but who knows. But I will say that the way they chose to end the show after 12 years is indeed very strange...no real goodbye, no real explanation...it’s a sad state of affairs but at the end of the day, it’s their own decision. Here’s to hoping we’ll hear from them again in the future.
